    Default In Case It Would Happen To You

    My dad and I have been on a road trip through the New England states, the trike has been running pretty decent. The other day I had a strange happening after my 1st fuel stop of the day. I fired up the trike and hit the road, my 1st clue something wasn't right was when my Zumo wasn't playing music and directions. I then noticed my cruise control wasn't functioning along with the radio. I pulled off the road and discovered the turn signals didn't work, the brake lights didn't work, the horn didn't work. I pulled the left side cover to check out the fuse box, pulled a couple fuses and found nothing. For ****s and grins I pulled the 40 amp Maxi fuse and reseated it. Pulling and reseating the Maxi fuse got everything back to normal. Don't know what caused this to happen, I'm going to put a little dielectric grease on the fuse when I get home.

    Just wondering out loud, wonder if the steering lock switch might also need a little grease on the contacts as well??

    I had a similar issue with my steering lock switch on my 1990 Ultra Classic Electraglide. I eventually had to replace it.

    Good to know. George has been having issues with the 06 Ultra. Same things. He replaced fuses and got everything working, but now his directional lights are screwing up. He has turn signals, but one back one doesn't light up when braking and one front one light is out, but still shows the signal light. Weird.

    My 1990 Ultra has been doing something like that for years. You start the bike and drive off. You then find that nothing is working including the radio. What I have been doing is pull in the clutch and turn the bike off( while still riding down the road), then back on, I then ease the clutch out until the bike restarts. This seems to fix the problem. This is probably not the safest thing to do while riding but it does fix the problem. I have done this probably 100 times.

    when i had the fairing off during a handlebar change; i took the time to disconnect every elec. connector & fuses too) & put a dab of dia-electrical grease on them. hope everyone takes the time to do the same. & i greased the steering neck (which was dry)
    in my '09 tri-glide.

    I've yet to see a HD touring bike with a full neck unless the dealer takes the time to pump about half a tube of grease in the neck at setup or 1k service.

    You may be on to something, I might have just been pissing in the wind when I pulled the Maxi fuse. It very well could be what your mentioning, will have to keep it in mind.

    I had a problem a while back, it would blow a fuse (forgot which) and I would have no brake lights, no speedo no tach no parade fan and more. The problem was one of the wires on the rear brake light switch had the insulation worn thru and was shorting to ground.

    I've never had to replace one yet but I'D think you would have to remove the panel it is mounted through in order to get at it.
