I got here via a post on the VW site, Samba, by bazooka. So blame him if it doesn't work out. I don't currently have a 3 wheeled vehicle...but some day!

VWs and offroad racing are my other two addictions.

Hello, MkParker. Welcome to the site. I was a lurker on the Goldwing board for about 2 years before I got my Goldwing. Sometime it is good to learn as much as U can before U jump in. Welcome to the board, Micheal! My wife and I had a Trike Shop Runabout (The Blue Trike) for 11 years. Pinstriped and painted with waterfalls down the fenders, automatic transmission and a foot accelerator installed. We both loved the thing, and wish we could have kept it, but she needed a more upright seating position for long multi-day rides and there was only room for 1 trike in the stable. Hence Her Purpleness, our GL1500 Goldwing Motor Trike. <br /><br />

V-dubs are reliable, easy to work on and can be massaged to make more than enough power to get a person into trouble. The Blue Trike was very stable, and it was actually hard to get the front wheel off the ground. Some rear-engine trikes I've ridden could get pretty light in the front with a twist of the wrist. <br /><br />

If you are looking into a VW trike, find a trike event around your area. You don't specify where in Texas you are, but the Brothers of the Third Wheel (BTW) or Trike Riders International (TRI) must have some chapters in Texas. They will be glad to have interested trikers-to-be attend a meeting or event.<br />

Trikes come in a great variety.

Factory built in many flavors: VW based ones can be very interesting. I have a friend that cut the front off a bug and attached a Kawasaki front frame for steering. Another guy did the same with a squareback. I have seen home built trikes so nice they look like a production ride. I've also seen some homebuilts that I didn't want to be within 20 feet when they started them up.<br /><br />

As soon as I can figure out how to get my pictures small enough to take less than an hour to download with the dial-up, I'll post some pics of The Blue Trike and our current ride, Her Purpleness in the garage.

J/K...welcome mkparker. I love that this site is more about fun, diversity and being different than arguing about who`s doggone trike is best. I like em all actually. I have a friend who has a bright yellow vdubber that totes the front wheel at will. Its a hoot! Hang out with us sometimes and post something interesting on the vdubber thread. We all love to read about trikes of all kinds....right fellers??
