Things get a little tricky when you say orange box, they have two SE tuners in orange boxes, the Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner and the Screamin Eagle Street Performance tuner, the street tuner only allows limited adjustably. The street performance tuner is pretty much like having a canned map downloaded into the ECM. The Pro Super Tuner allows a whole bunch of changes to be made, it is the more desirable of the two offerings. The down side is the Pro Super Tuner will void the warranty if Harley finds out that it has been installed.

Your loading up problem sounds like its from oil, I'm betting the installing dealer has screwed the pooch on the build. I'm thinking you have a piston ring problem, all the dyno work in the world won't compensate for a poor engine build. The dealer needs to start with a compression and leak down test and trouble shoot from there.

Below is a picture of the new Pro Super Tuner, I won't confuse things by posting a picture of the 1st version of this tuner which was in a black case. Which of the these do you have?

This is a picture of the Street Performance Tuner.

Well that is a good question. I was told it was a super tuner and I know it's orange. I never physically took it out of the box for a close look. I think it looks more like the top one but I cannot be 100% sure.

At this time the tuner is with the trike at Fort Thunder. Funny thing, the service manager, Russell, at FT said the same thing about a ring being installed upside down.

So what Russell said was he was going to tear down that engine and have a look at the rings, cams and everything else that was done FIRST before he goes in and puts it on a Dyno.

It's under warranty so he is just going to check it out. He told me that before he did put it on the Dyno, if it's needed, he wanted to personally know and physically verify that the engine work was done properly and the rings installed correctly.

Once it's verified and corrected if needed, he will put on Dyno...

Just got off the phone with Russell at Fort Thunder, he had to order a new set of rings for the trike. Guess the first set were installed incorrectly!!! I wish a man could actually get what they pay for at these Harley Shops!! Some shops do not even hire Harley certified mechanics. Well at least it's under warranty...

Well at least they found the smoking gun and should be able to get you straightened out. What folks don't realize is a good many of the Harley parts changers are just that, I can't bring myself to call them mechanics. They just open a pile of boxes and start going to town without much thought process. When you do find a good mechanic you want to make sure he is the one you request to do your work and occasionally toss him a couple extra bucks for taking care of you, its amazing how much goodwill a 20 dollar bill will bring you.

Harley Davidson and the dealer doesn't make it any easier with the flat rate on some of these jobs. Doing engine work takes a little extra time, you have to work clean and check, check and double check your work and the clearances. They just can't bust open a box of rings without checking for proper end gap and orientation when installing them, like wise they need to check piston to wall clearances.

Well we picked up my wife's trike and it did not need dyno'd. Seems like the top mechanic at Harley World in OKC installed the rings on the rear cylinder wrong or they were broke, not sure. The official term used was, "rings on piston of rear cylinder were messed up". According to Russell he said they had never seen anything like this before. Seems like they had two rings in one slot! I can only guess they had them where the oil ring should go.

They put it on dyno but it did not need it so he did not charge for testing it. Since we bought that trike new with the stage three it was never running right. I drove it home and we always had to get RPM'S up around 2,000 to take off. Well guys I did that and my wife, Sherry, said she thought she saw daylight under the front tire! The trike is running correctly now and it's faster than quick can get ready!

Also the tuner we have actually has Super tuner printed on it. The box states "this product is intended for race applications only. Intended for experienced riders only.

Anyway, I have a new place to take my trikes too. We had it checked out at HD World and they had it a week and said there was nothing wrong. Good to know that at Fort Thunder they actually put a compression gauge on it and found the problem.

    Thanks every one!

Thanks for the update. Glad it worked out well for you. Now I need to decide if I want to rideup to Moore for a dyno tune or stay with the PV auto tune.

Well I have had bikes worked on at Stillwater, Edmond and OKC now and have gotten the shaft by all three. Stillwater does not hire Harley approved mechanics, like if that helps at all. In Stillwater the 1k, 5k, 10k, 15k and 20k all takes less than 20 minutes but they charge you accordingly.

In Edmond I had my Road Glide 10k service done and personally asked them to check the neck bearing. I was assured they would. on the road that front end wobbled so bad it whipped out the front tire at 14k. Had to buy a new tire and asked that guy to check it out. they found NINE SWINGS, that is 9 SWINGS in my front neck bearing. only supposed to have 2 for a Road Glide 2012, 2.5 swings MAX, of course I had to pay again for a neck bearing adjustment.

Hard to get what you pay for at a dealership it seems...

However those boys at Fort Thunder did all that work to my wife's trike at no charge! Yes it was under warranty but most shops would have charged something... If you go by there, tell them Tom Stepanski sent you over. They have a point system there and I would get a couple brownie points.

Maybe when it warms up a little we can get together for a ride...

    Thanks...

One final word. Her trike flies! From 0 to 60 we are pretty evenly matched, her 2013 103-CUI with the stage 3 versus my 2014 trike with the new 103-CUI. But after 60 mph her trike will flat leave mine in the dust.

We now know what it really feels like to have a stage 3 engine upgrade. For us we will always take our trikes to Fort Thunder in Moore Oklahoma for service and repair work. They truly do it right out there. It's refreshing to take your Harley to a dealer and actually have them do the work.

This past Sunday we took the trikes out on a couple hundred mile ride. It was sure nice and they both performed excellent.

Southern Thunder HD, Southaven MS, very good.

Adventure Harley in Dover, Ohio has a Trike Dyno. I'd like to see some reviews from customers before I commit.

Like I've said on several occations, there are a lot of Harley dealers out there who have techs who only know how to open boxes and bolt on parts. Most of these idiots shouldn't be allowed to build engines.

Does anyone know of a trike dyno in the Chicago area?

I think someone mentioned a shop about 80-90 miles east of you, check some of the older posts or maybe check the Dynojet website for location of 250ix dynos .

If you know of one or several please post their information in this thread. They must have a real and physical trike dyno machine. Road dyno testing is great but there are some that need to take it to a Pro and not get involved with the road tuning process.

Comments on trike dyno operators... Good, Bad and the ugly would also be appreciated.

Just had my trike tuned with a SE Supertuner. They road tuned it and used a half tank of gas. Modifications were V&E Power Duals and a V&E naked VO2 breather. Sounds great and runs strong, HP 86/ Torque 104 @ 3800 RPM. How does this sound. 0 Cat and all else stock 2012 Triglide. Thanks Ray

If it runs cool, smooth, and gets good fuel mileage you should be good to go. The interesting part is you said they road tuned it yet they gave you a hp & torque number. If they road tuned it they couldn't have been able to give you numbers unless they tuned it on the dyno and then took it for a ride to see how it road, which is what a good tuner should do.

They can dyno Trikes. I have an appt. to get my 14 trike put on the dyno to tune the trike after the VH true duals, 4" Rineharts, HD stage 1 air cleaner have been installed. They are using the HD super tuner that I also supplied. They are charging $325.00 for dyno time.
