this is a shame!!!
this is a shame!!!
YES...living proof that size does matter...and old school engineering is not always optimal!
Not only that but look at the chunk missing on the pad..If I get a chance I will take a pic of my rotors and pads after 4K miles..MOCO knows there is a issue but refuses to pay for it..
I rarely used my rears but when I did they did work fine at the time little knowing the crap amterial being used..
I do see paying 1200 bucks to upgrade them either..
if your rotors are ok, replace the pads with Lyndall racing pads -- your not going to get anything out of the moco
I Tried the Lyndalls didnt like them went with the EBC pads and newer harley rotors..
Did know they changed the rotors so what is different?
Just had my rotors replaced with newer HD ones a couple thousand miles ago on '10 TG. Old ones were all grooved out. Mech couldn't figure out why. Thought maybe dirt got in it. Pads always replaced before they were worn. Guess I will see if they are beefed up.
i replaced my rear calipers with the performance machine stage 1 system. really happy about the brakeing.,but lost the e-brake. not much of a trade off for $800.00

My 09 Tri glide>>
Im in the process right now getting updated pads and rotors for my 09...The dealer is cooperating so far...I have 5 yr ext warranty...I purchased the bike with 7895kms on it and the brake squeal has gotten worse..I blew the pads out with air and sprayed brake clean in there as well as backed off the park brake till it just holds...HDs setting with a fish scale is pretty arkaick way of doin it...All this has helped with the squealling, but I find the rear brakes fairly inadequate...Im hoping the updated version is somewhat better and quieter....If HD ext warranty wont cover all this, they have the worst person in the wolrd on there ass....I DONT go away...LOL...iv dealt with customer service at HD Canada before, and Im sure they will cringe if they hear my name...so, in other words....THE squeaky wheel gets greased!!!
Will update after the back ordered 83425-09A rotors arrive..HB
Msocko3...Watch them try to tell me ..OH, Its those fancy PM wheels that are making it squeal!!!..LOL...Im sure I will have them before the rotors...
My dealer replaced pads at 20,000 miles and charged me for them. I complained about the chewed up rotors that looked terrible. They told me they were ok and did nothing to them. As I left I tried the brakes and they did NOT stop. Scared the hell out of me. I went back in and complained and they then told me they will start to work as they wear into the groves in the rotors! No one seems to give a hoot that the rear brakes are crap! I looked at PM brakes and rotors, but then you have to buy their wheels as their rotors will not fit with the stock wheels. So that ends up being approximately $4,000 to fix a poor designed brake. I am still trying to find something that is better and doesn't cost so much.

You do not have to buy the performance wheels to upgrade there brake system. Stage 1 system will work on the stock wheels.
The rotors will now have a B or C after the part number for the stock rotors. Which most likey is a revison on the part.
I do agree the brakes could be better..But they do work. I may try to bleed the system and see how the brakes works after flushing out the old brake fluid.
More of my 2 cents...I was part owner of a Midas Muffler shop for 16 yrs...We did alot of auto brakes...In all reality, rotors should be resurfaced when new pads are fitted...groves in rotors are usually caused by dirt and excess dust or 2 materials that just dont get along with each other.....After viewing mine, the rotors are getting grooved and the pads are disappearing..Squeal is happening from 2 uncompatible materials...I believe the new updated rotors and pads are made of a more sutable material to co-operate with each other...if you have the new pads, i would remove the rotors, have a brake shop spin a few thousands of em, give them at least a new surface for these pads...Not having warranty, you have not much to looze befroe buying new rotors...You need to learn to use your front brake more as well...70% of bracking is on the front, 30% rear..i also have a Buell S2T which approx 90% braking is front , 10% rear, like most sport bikes...ALA Stoppies!...
I am pursuing new pads and rotors from ext warranty, and belive me, if they dont come to the party{HD} , they got alot of grief comin there way...They also installed a park brake on the Tri Gs, and I want my to work, Period!
Just my 2 cents..HB
1 year, thats pathetic! I'll have to hammer on them some when I get back from vacation. I removed the PM brake calipers and put the Triglide back to stock before I sent it down the road, I even installed the parking brake lever. I couldn't in good conscious let it go with what I considered a flawed brake system. Once I can get PM to make things right with the master cylinder and the hose I'll be selling the system I removed.

You may get new rotor from the MOCO but not pads and if you do you did great..
My dads bike just went thru that and he had to fight with them just to get new rotors. I ended uo putting on new pads for him now he is selling the trike.
