Smile Lehman Trikes Monarch II

    Hi

Anybody have any insight into Lehman. There is a dealership in Zanesville Ohio which is close to me about 2 hours away. I was thinking about going there to look. Was out at Neihaus in Lintchfield Il. Tuesday but that is 5 hours away little too far to travel for service. Any information would really help.

    Thanks

    Cincydude

Hi Cincydude. Lots of people like Lehman. My reason for not considering their kit was because I wanted a kit that had independent suspension. From what I understand, Lehman kits don't have that. Everyone's needs are different. I would recommend that you head up to Fairfield Honda. They install CSC and Motortrike kits. They also service them. A lot closer than riding 5 hours for service!

Agreed. Shop around and see what fits you.

I went with the Hannigan as I liked the lines it has and the fact that it's independent suspension as well.

I bought a 2002 Honda Gold Wing with a Lehman Trike conversion last month in July. I didn't do much research on trikes before my purchase. I like my bike a lot but after the fact I found this and another forum relating to Wings and Trikes.

The Lehman rides nice IMO but is a little stiff. Meaning there isn't much give on cornering. That is either good or bad depending on how you want to ride the trike. They also recommend to run the back tires at 20-25 psi for ride comfort. I don't know how this compares to independent suspension since I haven't rode one with IS but I would assume independent is a better/smoother ride as least in cornering.

Also Lehman shut down operations/went out of business at the beginning of this year. Since then they have been bought out and re-started back up.

I am not sure how that effects parts availability now or in the future. Just something else to consider.

If you have the opportunity and are not in a hurry I would try to ride both versions of the trikes and see what does it for you. For me it was a local purchase and I have balance issues so the trike timing was right for me. I am happy with my purchase and haven't rode this much since I was a young man and the wife will now ride with me again which makes it a lot more fun for us.

I just purchased a 2005 GL1800 with Lehman Monarch II kit. I like it very much. It has the solid axle which I find is fine. I have never ridden one with Independent Suspension. You get pros and cons on each type of axle. You also get pros and cons on radial or bias ply front tires. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. LOL. Anyway, the Monarch II is built very well and looks great. I like the lift straight up trunk and of course the original GL trunk on top.

I can see that it ought to be interesting removing the rea wheels if necessary due to the fact that the fenders are so close to tire. I will let the dealer handle that for me. I purchased mine from " East Coast Cycle Center" in Bensalem, Pa. They build the Lehman trikes there if you bring them your GL. They are very knowledgeable and I will continue to let them do any servicing I need. There is enough chrome on the trike to get "Thumbs Up" everywhere I go.
One of our Gold Wing trikes is a Lehman Monarch II and the other is a Motor Trike Adventure with IRS.
We bought the Lehman as our first trike for the hubby.
Just for something different I bought the Motor Trike IRS.
Both of us are totally comfortable driving either trike.
There is not a pinch of difference in the feel of them.
We love the heck out of both of them!

I'm new to this and have not triked our 2012 Wing yet but we intend to soon. We have drove the CSC Wing and HD. We have also tested the HD Tri Glide, we really like HD but we feel the Triked Wing will be a better choice for us. We were really set on the CSC on the Wing but with Lehman back in business, that interests me even if it is the solid axle as they seem to have a great reputation (that could change after a test ride). For those who have had the solid axle over the IRS, is one more trouble free?

welcome aboard. straight axles are simpler but most IRS's are very reliable. I don't know but is Lehman building conversions yet? I thought their first step was to take care of the back log of parts requests and dealer network. Conversion builds I heard were after that. If you can not wait the CSC is a great conversion.

Bob Hittle is at Cumberland Trails in Zanesville. He will help you out quite nicely and can talk to you about other brands that he promotes as well. I am an advocate for straight axle trikes because of their simplicity. Now don't attack me for that statement, You just get on them and GO and there is virtually nothing that wears out except the brakes.

I have built 2 Lehman conversions since Lehman Trikes was acquired by Champion Investments.

I have 3 other kits on order as we speak. Lehman and Champion will be working on an IRS model this winter as an option to the Monarch II. That will be an interesting development for Lehman Trikes.

We are in no hurry and would like to take the time to test ride a couple more so even if we wait until next winter it won't be a problem. We are headed to Sturgis for 2013 so I'm guessing Lehman will be doing some test rides of both the solid axle and a independent if it is ready.

rumor has it there is to be a new contender in the market soon. I can't wait to see what they bring to the table. Look at them all, ride them all if possible. If the new player is as good as they are alluding to, I might even sell or trade mine off for one. You have the right idea, patience, it's a big investment. No matter what you choose, you'll be happy. We love our trike.

The wife and I got to demo a 08 Wing tonight with the Lehman conversion. The wife went to the demo convinced she would not like it because of the solid axle. We both left convinced that we would not have any regrets if we took this conversion over the CSC which we have also been giving serious thought to.

We also got to take a Lehman HD Ultra Classic for a demo ride and we found that the Lehman is a nice improvement over the TriGlide ride; and I thought they were the same bike!

The Triglide is built as a trike from the ground up, not a conversion of an existing 2-wheel bike, so no kit is involved. Lehman worked with HD on the trike and built much of it for them initially, but the last few years HD has been building them totally without Lehman.
