If they are out of round, they most likely don't have the type hone there will make it round without it being out of specs.
Bore it .010 then hone on size.
Hey Mike, the trike is back in the shop again for the using of the 2qrts of oil going to Denver. Was there 2hrs talking to the owner & techs. They did a leak down test on the cylinders. Guess what, it failed. Imagine that. I told them to just install new jugs & be done with it. They have to see if it is out of round. If not they are going to Hone them again & send me on my way. Go figure. If it happens again its history.
I told them to break it in so they can't come back on me & say I messed it up.
Hopefully 3rd time is a charm. Jim

At this point I would be LIVID, as I'm sure you are. I think they owe you new jugs, for all the back and forth BS you have endured. I wonder if talking to the MOCO directly would influnce this in your favor! It just seems to me that boring the cyclinders out, on a big bore motor would shorten the lifespan-how many times can you do it? Good luck
They can only hone so much off before the piston to call clearance will be to great, I hope they know to check this clearance before they waste your time. A good many Harley cylinders are out of round from the get go. When I built my 120 I bought the pistons and the HD bigger bore cyls from Head Quarters, Doug bores them .005 to true them because every set he has checked has had an uneven taper in them.

At this point,, have them replace the jugs!!! Don't even bother trying to have the cylinders honed. You've already gone through enough!
I tried to tell them to install new jugs from the get go. Then they tell me if they just hone the jugs I don't have to break it in. Bullcrap!! I've built enough engines to know better than that. I'm going to have another talk with them.
They are shooting a load of b/s.
It is getting where so many are running their mouth about something they just don't have a clue about.
Stupid ignored excuses, and they do it with arrogance too..
Just my opinion.
They can't fire me, I own the company I work for.
I'll let you guys know what happens. Sure would like to get it back before Labor Day weekend. I called the owner again today & tried to talk sense with him. He told the guys to quit measuring this & that & just put it back together the way it's suppose to be. So we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted. Jim
Was at the Harley shop Monday to see whats up with the bike. They are installing new jugs. Go figure. They said the jugs were out of round really bad.Guess it helped to go over there & bitch a little. They said the parts were going to be hear today. Maybe I will get it back for the weekend for our ride to Savannah,Ill. But it is suppose to rain like mad from the hurricane. Still have to break it in before I go,but really don't have time to break it in. Last time we drove out there it was the same situation. I hit 500mi on the Dan Ryan in Chicago. Did my 1st wheellie there too. Hopefully I won't be using alot of oil again, but will have to take another long ride to fine out. Maybe I can get a2500mi ride to Denver again before May. Thats when my warranty is up. Jim
Hot Dam.... that gives a whole new meaning to the term "happy ending".....if ya know what I mean!
At least they're finally doing the right thing. Just a shame they had to put you through the whole rebuild scenario.
I hope their using new rings. Have you ever read this break in method Click Here.

Yeh Mike, thats exactly what I did the last time. Didn't work for me. Not doing that this time. I'll take my changes the other way. I still haven't heard from the shop about my bike. It's hard to break a motor in going down the toll road or interstate, or Dan Ryan. Ask your dad about the Dan Ryan. I think thats the way he went west. What ever happens with the bike I hope its good. If not I will probably trade it & lose my ass. Ride that Wing hard & safe buddy. Talked to Dennis. Said he is swamped with the CW. He is really a hell of a good guy. Wanted to ride down to see him but he is too busy to bug right now. Jim
I was told to put a 100 miles on it, then just ride it the way you're going to.
Randy
Jim, are you coming to the Davis Rally? It's the weekend after Labor Day.
Randy
No Randy, there is a big biker thing that goes on across the river from Savannah,Ill. We don't go to that. We just ride around, & go to a couple of bars. There is one in New Diggins,Wis. It's a real old bar out in the boonies. Me & the wife just go along for the ride. We might have a couple of beers & thats it. We don't get into the drinking thing. We usually go to J&P Cycle but don't know if we are going this time. We are staying in Elizabeth,Ill. We are going to Galiena again, Pretty neat town. What is the Davis Rally? Jim We don't even have the bike back from the shop yet.
I've been to that bar in new diggins, that hard to find if you dont have a leader that knows where he's going. Have you ever been to Poopies in Savana? that a popular biker bar.
