Hairline fender cracks

Anyone else have hairline cracks in thier rear fenders?
Will ext warranty replace or should i just get stealer to document as i have 4.5 yrs warranty left...Tri is a 2009 sunglo red...

Sorry to hear about crack in fender. Response could be that you sat on fender causing the crack!! I had hairline crack around the front hinge on tour pak lid...not covered on extended warranty ($432 replacement cost plus $210 to install old-to-new). Hope you have better luck.

i am making fiberglas fenders for the tri-glides--heavier made than the plastic oem's --lass than 1/2 what oem cost

Those fenders sure do vibrate a heck of a lot, especially at idle. Whenever they catch my eye, my first thought is "How long will those last before they crack?"

Yep..They shake alot when cold idle at first start up...I can just see a line starting to show near the edge that it bolts on to the body...Its never bin hit or sat on , just from idle shake i would pressume..it Dont surprise me tho..Hb

It only cost you a little of your time and some gas to run by the dealers and see what they have to say.

Mike, yes, i will show it too the dealer this week when they look at the rear brakes..Its nothing seriuos at this time, but Im wondering how far the crack will go or if it will spyder out...i had purchased a new Buell in 1995 and it did the same thing...Buell replaced the entire body for me under warranty..HB

I hated reading what BinIdaho had to say. Was riding in a funeral procession the other day and had to get something in the tour pack. The wife opened it up fully and got what she needed when the cable on the retractable thether broke and the lid fell. Nice big split over the front hinge. Ask about extended warrenty, shop said no. Has to be mechanical.
This wouln't have happened if their mechanical thether was built stronger. Now I hope I don't have that big of a bill. Will find out tomorrow.

I have an 05 Ultra/Lehman and removed the body for painting. I helped the paint guy carry it into his shop. He said that it weighed about twice as much as the Triglide body. Not sure about the 09 as it was made by Lehman. Is your body one piece or are the fenders removable, mine is one piece. Your crack will continued to run, to stop it drill a small hole at the end of the crack and that will stop it. Fill the hole and touch up paint.

Rod69. Not entirely true, unless the warranty change recently.
I had a cracked paint problem by the front tourpak lock. I was upset because the fiberglass had a defect at that point which I believed caused the paint to crack. My dealer agreed, but H-D corp didn't. Long story short they finally replaced my tourpac after almost a year of fighting. I think the dealer had something to do about it because I told the dealer to cancel the 6 speed install that I had scheduled for a week later.

As far as I know, paint is not covered under the warranty, but defective fiberglass is(but not accidental problems). Not sure about the new plastic pieces.

Has any one noticed that Quality has gone down and that profits are what is driving manufacturing? Take the Fenders for instance... Could they not have made them( engineered ) better but, perhaps engineering is price or cost driven? I have noticed this with just about all of the Trike kits and tri glides!!!

Memnoch451, I think that goes for just about everything in this day and age. I can name you 9 or 10 things in my house that were build better 40 or 50 years ago then they are now. Plastics are replacing metals and do not hold up as well.

It seems like "pride in what you build" is a long forgotten saying. The %$#@ beancounters run the companys now.

I remember when it took 2 hands to pick up an audio receiver, now just 2 fingers. WTF.
I realize in some instances things have better and more do-dads, but the longevity is gone. Cheaper to replace then fix.

Mine is actually showing I guess a paint crack about 6 in long...Its located at the front of the fender near the curved part that is after it is bolted to the body..Seems to me that when its idling, this is wear the fender shake flexes the fender..

need to fill with abs type filler/glue bondo wll not adhere well to the abs plastic

actually pretty common---had a run on susuki abs plastic fenders a while back-- made a fiberglass fender replacement for those-----fiberglass is a bit heavier but a lot stronger (and easier to repair

It may help with installing the running boards as they attach to the fenders to stop the vibration of the fenders..

I know it a pricey adventure but its something to think about..

Mine are fiberglass, didn't know the Tri Glide's were ABS. That will save some weight.

I didn't know they were ABS on the Triglide either, the ones on the 2010 I had sure looked like fiberglass on the big chip I had taken out by a rock tossed by a dump truck.
