Gas mileage ?

Hi New too the forum. I just bought my first trike a month ago it is a 92 1500 goldwing. I like everything about it accept the gas mileage It is only geting 22 or 23 mph. I think it should get better than that but don't know for sure.What is everybody else geting with there 1500 Goldwings. Thank for any help or input.

I have two friends that had '93 GL1500 Motor Trikes. They both got around 25 mpg on the highway. In town won't be that good. As I recall they have something like a 3.08 rear differential ratio to compensate for the slight lack of power (not that a GL1500 is a wimp by any means)... There seems to be a real wide range when it comes to gas mileage. I get between 26 and 30 depending on how hard I ride and conditions. I've heard of guys getting in the upper 30s but I'd be willing to bet that is in high altitude conditions.

Back when my '06 only had two wheels I got in the mid 50 in the mountains and in the upper 30s and low 40 here in West Texas.... Remember, your GL1500 is carburated so it won't do with the fuel injected GL1800s will....

My last trike was a 1500 Motortrike. It got 27 -32 if I kept it below 3000 RPM. Anything above 3000 and it was down to 20-23. In other words if you ride over 55 or so it'll cost you. The 1800 does better, I guess that the extra power and the fuel injection helps, it does 35-37 if I keep it below 3000 RPM. It drops to around 32 if I run 65 or 70 MPH. Hope this helps.

We have been getting 37/39 mpg on a 95se1500 RS ,rideing on Pa. & Ny. sec. roads @ 55 mph.Super slab & head winds,forget MPG and try to have a good ride.

I have a 82 GW-1100 trike and get 32-33 MPG around town and 35-36 on the open road IF I stay at 55 or lower. If I'm towing the Mini-Mate Camper then I usually expect to lower the MPG by 2.

Not a GW, but a Valkyrie GL-1500... I get 25 mpg is I keep my wrist out of it, and stay below 3k RPM. Above that, especially in a headwind, I've seen as little as 21 mpg. But, I've re-jetted all 6 carbs with larger jets for more low end power. Considering adding an auxiliary tank.

For comparison I have a 2012 1800 GW with MotorTrike kit and with two up i get 33 MPG.I drive the speed limit..maybe more most of the time.

I have a 93 1500 with motor trike kit 44.000 miles i get 28-34 @ 80 to sturgis avg went to 25 , pulling trailer 2 up , usually right at 29-30

i gladly gave up some mileage for the trike, ,wish we would of did sooner

My 1997 DFT Goldwing gets 36 riding 2up on back roads with speeds in the 45mph range (155 miles on a tank is normal . If I pull a trailer and do 65 or more it will go into the low 30s even high 20s . In our recent Ride to Newport RI during the NE TT rally III , riding with the 18 trikes on back roads, I got 34.5 mpg

Yup, it's sort of a trade-off. Either way we enjoy the ride. One way you get to smell the wild flowers - the other you get your heart rate up...

Yep - I tried the heart rate argument with my nurses at my cardiac rehab center. They frowned and said it's not the same benefit as the treadmill!

I have a 1999 with champion kit, love it, pulling trailer on interstate 36, you all have to remmeber that the 98-99-2000, where computer monitored carb. made a big differece. Sorry about some of the spelling, never was to good at it.
