being a new triker i was wondering if you should check the torque on the lugs nuts on the trike once a year or maybe sooner. my trike is new and i have only 800 miles on it. i will be going on a 1000 mile trip in june.

If I had a new ride, the first thing I would do is a general nut-n-bolt check routine any place I could get to one on the machine. If you have never checked those lug nuts before, now is a good time. Never know how it left the factory. The spec. on mine is 85 pounds. With disc brakes, make sure you follow a sequence or you could warp the rotors....criss-cross just like on a car.
John, I check mine about every 3 or 4 trips I make on it. If you have aluminum wheels, I would check them more often. I learned back in my drag racing days that aftermarket wheels and "acorn" style lug nuts tend to loosen up sometimes. It doesn't take but a few minutes to check and makes you feel a lot better! Ride safe.

Lug nuts/bolts on a m/c trike should be treated the same as on an automobile or light truck. Use a torque wrench when mounting and recheck torque after 200 to 250 miles if the wheels are aluminum alloy construction. Do not (ever) use anti-seize paste on lug nuts or bolts.

What is the proper torque setting for the rear wheel lug nuts? I have a 2006 GL1800 Lehman Monarch II conversion. Thanks in advance.
Since no one else has posted a response, I will throw in my 2 cents. First, check the owners manual for the trike or ask the company that built the kit. Generally speaking I would think that from 75# to 80# should be sufficient. Do not use anti-seize paste on the threads. Torque the wheel nuts any time the wheels are removed and again after 200 to 250 miles.
