    Default '12/'13 Tri-Glides Straight axles or IRS?

    Was Looking into the new Tri-Glides on-line But I cant tell do they come with a Straight Axle rear end or a IRS or can they be ordered either way?

    To my knowledge all Triglides have straight axles up to this point. I have not heard that they are coming out with an IRS model as yet.

    I have been told that a company that manufactures trike kits and now an IRS for Tri Glides ( 6k installed ) was consulted re: IRS before HD came out with the Tri Glide.
    I believe that HD was looking for cheap and easy as IRS DOES add quite a bit more to the cost.
    Take this for whatever it might be worth.
    I do not believe that HD can/will manufacture as IRS as it would put them way above the market for trikes.

    I have been curious why HD is not jumping into the rapidly expanding world of IRS? My guess is that they are just stuck in the old school engineering dynamic. Or could it be that they believe it is the better more durable option??

    Sometimes changing things hurts sales, Especially with the purists. That's why there fighting off water cool engines. [to the EPA's displeasure]
    ie; Years ago Jeep sales went in the dumper when they went to Square headlights. When they went back to round sales went up.

    They come as everyone says from HD with the straight axle. wobray is correct DFT makes an IRS for the TRI-Glide.

    I've had four trikes, three GW trikes and one TG...two IRS ( both CSC kits) one Champion straight axle and the HD TG...have a CSC IRS kit now....I really couldn't tell a nickle's worth of difference in any of them....might just be me.

    I totally agree with you. It is a matter of preference.There are good and bad trade offs with both of them.

    Personal preference. I test road both types. IMO the IRS didn't feel as stable to me as the straight axle. I suggest you ride both to see which you like.

    I have no personal experience with either, but I read an article that stated a smoother ride with the IRS in a parking lot at slow speeds, and smoother with the straight on the
    highway.

    We have been testing Trikes to include the TriGlide, CSC IRS on a HD and a Goldwing, last night we tested a Lehman solid axle on both a HD and a Goldwing. Based on the test rides I had done on the TriGlides and the IRS conversions, I was sure the only way to go was with IRS but after the demo on two, solid axle Lehmans it would be difficult for me to say there was much of a difference in a good solid axle over a IRS. Since we have a reputable Lehman dealer near by we will likely due a Lehman solid axle conversion to our Goldwing for the wife. If I had a TriGlide, I would be looking at some mods to improve the ride but it is nothing that would have to be rushed into.

    I have a DFT with the IRS and a Tri Glide.

    Both are great bikes. BOth have pros and cons just like anything out there..

    Ride both tyrpes of bikes and take a long ride vesus a parking lot. The choice is ultimately yours .

    Personally I like the DFT better..MAybe down The rode I will go with the DFT conversion IRS on the TRIGlide. But for now I am happy with both Trikes..

    If you state that you are happy with both, may I ask why you might convert the TriGlide with the DFT down the rode. I just picked up my 2013 TriGlide and have about 2,000 Miles on it,right now. I am not disappointed with the suspension the way it is. But I have not rode a Trike with IRS. Thanks for everyone input on this subject.

    When I was looking into converting my 06 Ultra I test rode a DFT conversion. It was a 2 to 3 hour test ride. My bride was not very happy with the ride. We are both happy with the handeling and ride of the TG.

    I certainly like the engineering of the DFT and If I were to do a conversion it would be the DFT. I don't believe spending another 6,000 on my TG to convert it to the DFT would be money well spent.I talk alot to riders who are very agressive riders and they content thet the straight axel is the way to go but like everything else it is a matter of opinion. They did not like the lean of the IRS.
