Are there any replacement speakers I could use on my 05 Wing that would make an appreciable difference in sound without having to do major surgery/modifications on the mounting?

I recently replaced the front speakers with a direct replacement set from WingStuff. Although they sound,,, okay,, they still leave a lot to be desired. Just wondering,,,.

Rich,
You are in the right track by asking the same question on the other web site. Plug in "speakers" on the search and you will get a host of info.
There are Sony speakers (I think you have to modify the opening)
Polkdb501 will fit right in
J & M has speakers
Pioneer also has speakers
Read the info and they will tell you to modify the speaker opening to get the "best" quality out of the speakers. Also, up grade the Honda radio so as to give you more power and better quality.
It will take some time to get all the facts, but I am sure it will give you a better sound.

Road noise, engine noise. traffic, wind rushing by and on and on. Sound from on-bike speakers in an open environment like a trike will always be comprised no matter the quality of the speakers installed. Aftermarket speakers will certainly be an improvement over stock, but for the best sound earplug speakers will sound the best, then earbuds, and then helmet speakers.

Hiya Rosy,

Now that's 2 votes for the Polk501. That's all I need, lol. Thanks. ThumbUp

Rich,
Did you get any feed back from the other web site as to "packing" the speak housing so you get more qua;ity sound from the speakers. I can't remember what they use for the "packing" materials in thread.
I would look into this as it sounded like it made a big difference in quality.
I had done my speakers before the thread came out and I was not going to take it all apart to do the "packing", maybe it was my loss, but as you are traveling along the roads there is so much other noise out there, from trucks, work, and some cars that I have a hard time just hearing the radio, never mind the quality.
Good luck!

Rosy,

I haven't received any responses from the other web sites. I'll definitely look into the 'packing' aspect. I'm going to buy the Polk speakers from Crutchfield and I know one of the fellas over there very well. If anyone will know about the type of packing material to be used, he would or his installation team. Thanks for the tip! ThumbUp

Memory is a wonderful thing to loose!
I thought there was a video or pictures on "how to" add new speakers in the front dash of a Goldwing. I also thought there was a tab you had to cut away to make the speakers fit and also how/what material to use when "packing" the speakers.
If you have time use the search mode in the other web site or this one, or it may have been on YouTube. Darn, it will come to me at about 2AM tomorrow morning!
Again good luck! Let know how you make out!

There is a tab that I trimmed in the front fairing to access to top mounting screw when I replaced those speakers, so that won't be an issue this second time around.

I'll have to look at the shop manual to see how to remove/replace the rear speakers. (Never did those yet) From what I understand, it's a different procedure for the 2005 as compared to the 2006 and up models.

Hint:
I did my rear speakers and didn't do what the instructions said to do. I studied the instructions and figured I didn't have to take all the tupperware off they wanted me to and worked around it. The first speaker took a little longer to do, but once I figured it out, the second was three times as fast.
I also had wires to contend with since my Gerbin's heat pod was monted on the door of the storage compartment under each rear speaker.
Good luck!
