    Default Cheap GPS ??

I need a cheap GPS that is weatherproof just to use go a speedometer. Something simple and easy to use. Don’t care if it talks or not, couldn’t hear it anyway. Be nice to have a trip meter on it. Any suggestions?

Go on E-Bay. There are some magnetic driven speedos on there that do what you need. I used one on a VW trike with the magnet on the front rotor.

Thank you Gorilla....I'll look around for one. But would a gps help if I ever got lost or need directions? I have never used or even seen one one used.

Just go to any electronics store, Best Buy..Target, Wally World.. buy as cheap a gps that you want..
.then go to Ram Mounts.com and buy a mount for it for $29.95
    Mount it.
If the weather looks bad, cover it with a sandwich bag..you can still see it fine and it is protected from rain.

That is what I do..Works perfectly fine. I did buy a more expensive GPS though.

Looks like a good option!! So most all of them have the speedometer on them?

Yep..That is an app on everyone of them...Instructions will show you how to get it on screen. I use my GPS speedo all the time..More accurate, big number easy to read without always lookin down at speedo, which is actually about 5 to 7 miles off...

Mines way off to but it looks good and don't want to do away with it. Riding season is getting short here so I might try and snag a good deal off ebay for next spring. Thank you for the help!!

If you can find an older streetpilot (2610, 2720 etc.) gps it will do everything you want and is waterproof. I have seen good 2610s for sell for under fifty dollars. I have owned a 2610 for several yrs. and it still works great.

Another possible solution for you is a bicycle computer. I had one mounted on the last two 1500s I owned. It will have the speedometer and trip meter on it and can be bought really reasonable. Be sure to get one that is good for high speed rates.

Thank you....I'm sure there will be a lot of used ones on ebay after Christmas.

A few years ago I picked up a Garmin 1450LMT at Target's Black Friday Doorbuster sale. Garmin listed it at $315, Target sale price was $159, got a $10 gift card and they took $10 more off at the register - Total price was $139, and it has lifetime map updates 4 times a year along with traffic info in bigger cities.
I also have an older Streetpilot 2610 - really liked that unit, programmable, feature packed, came with a remote (?) and wasn't dumbed down like the newer units are. Only thing is I can' get maps for it any more. The road I take to work opened since the last streetpilot update, and the display shows me going baja off road and it informs me that it is recalculating and I am off route. Wish someone would hack maps for these older but working units. It is still good for most routes, speed, time, distance, and such. Just the maps havent been updated since 2009.

Maybe someone will have a good deal at one of the Black Friday Sales. Garmin sounds like the brand to go with.

I use GPS units for my work...sometimes have to find as many as 30 adresses in a day...I wear them out in about a year or less...the touch screens just quit working or come up with all kinds of wierd stuff instead of what you are looking for. Garmin by far has them all beat as far as endurance and quality. Garmin is the only brand I will buy and all my industry peers do the same.

An 89.00 Garmin will work just fine. Will have most everything you could need. That is a sweet deal too!

My Garmin 255 got quite wet on a few rides and still works fine. They are sort of water resistant. I have it tucked in under my windshield . The small shower cap looking bowl covers work well in the rain too. I am sure if it is raining speed will be of little concern

Like I posted earlier, I just keep a couple of small sandwich baggies in my left windshield pouch under my garage door opener. They fit tightly and perfectly over a GPS and pull down far enough to keep it and the Ram Mount dry. You can easily read it and operate it also. Only have had to use it once in the last year. I keep the rain bonnet for my open K&N air filter in the right lower fairing compartment too, just in case.

When in my wife's car, I use an Android app called Waze which is MUCH better at GPS than my wife's Garmin GPS.
