Aux power supply

Has anyone installed an aux power supply so you can plug in your iPhone and tune in to iHeartRadio, etc without running your phone battery down?

If we're talking about the same thing, I've added (3) "cigarette lighter" type 12 volt outlets, 2 in the dash area and one in the r/h saddlebag. It's an easy job and all work well. Just plug in your 12 volt charger/adapter and your all set.

I have installed two of the cigarette lighter type, one in the left hand fairing pocket and one in the rear upper trunk. I have a Motor trike and thre was one already in the lower trunk. The two i installed was easy just drill a hole and plug them in to existing wiring.

The ones I got were off of wingstuff website and instructions to show you where to drill.

Good one, Konrad. Guess I think slower than I type. Actually, the outlets I mentioned were added a few years ago prior to triking. The 2 up front are still there and the saddlebag outlet has been retired along with the bags.

I was merely trying to point out that it's an easy addition that even I could do.

I also have three. One in each fairing pocket, with two plugs each. The other is behind my backrest and under the backrest pouch so Janice can plug anything she needs, from her iPhone to the GPS when she is the co-pilot.
You can never have enough plugs!

I added a seperate fuse block under the seat powered by an auxalliary battery in the tour trunk for all the toys. I have the stereo, mp3, gps, and over 300 leds powered off it. I added a trickle charger to it and after about 3 days useage I just plug it in. This way I know when I get ready to head home the cranking battery is full.

A couple things I ran into when I hooked up an Mp3 player, an iPhone and now my Android phone to play music:

When I had the audio running through the Honda system and had the device powered through the power outlet in the left pocket (and anywhere else I installed an outlet, it turns out) I had a very annoying buzz in the speakers, both on the bike and in the headsets. If I unplugged the device and ran on batteries the buzz went away. I got a Ground Loop Isolator that is a plug and play for the Goldwing from Electrical Connection and the problem went away. I have an android phone, this may not apply for the apple folks-
I play music from the 32gig card on the phone, and it will just keep a charge, but when I play I-Heart radio, Pandora and such that uses a data connection for the web it will eventually discharge. Turns out there are 2 kinds of chargers, don't know how to tell the difference except to plug it in to the phone. One will say, on the phone, "Charging USB", the other will be "Charging AC". The USB charger will not keep up with data usage, what you want to be sure of is the phone reports "Charging AC"

On Android phones a lot of them will get confunsed and think a headset is controlling the device when you plug in a patch cable to the 3.5mm plug, and call up the voice Dial 'feature', which messes with the music. Downloading the free app and turning it on when you plug in will keep the tunes playing.
