There is a good possibility that my wife's job will be relocated to the Houston area. We've been trying to get information on the operator licensing requirements for "trike pilots" in Texas. We've been unable to get a straight answer out of anyone thus far. All the State does is send us excerpts from various motor vehicle statutes, some of which contradict each other, but they never answer the question. (Sounds like the government doesn't it?)
So what's the scoop? Do we need a two-wheel endorsement for a three-wheel trike (like some states) or is there a special three-wheel endorsement (like some states) or no special endorsement required (like some states, including where we are now)?
Thanks in advance.

Third Wheel is exactly right. No trike license just a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license. That is a written and driving test. Also when you take your driving test you have to supply a legal automobile and driver to follow the bike and carry the tester.

Thanks for the replies.
So, if Texas says a trike is a motorcycle and we have to get a motorcycle endorsement can we take the test on our trikes?
Yes you can
Lucky you! Here in MA you have to take the test on 2 wheels to get the MC endorsement. Easiest way was to take the MSF course, but still!!

Do you have a trike that you may bring to Texas? If so, do you currently have a m/c endorsement in NC? If so, I don't think you will have to do anything but have the trike inspected prior to registering it and surrender your NC drivers' permit (w. endorsement) for a TX permit.
I'm in California and there is no requirement for anything other than a regular drivers license here so no current m/c endorsement.
We currently have three Harley trikes. Hoping to sell one of them before the move. Will be bringing two with us.
Thanks again for all the replies.
