eBay UK TRIKE SCAM

Hi all

Members at UK Trikers forum have been working hard to put a stop to an increasing EBAY scam involving high value Trikes and Bikes.

This scam lists trikes who's photos have been stolen from perfectly legitimate listings and offers them at a very low price. They then contact you out of eBay ask you to send money and they will deliver the trike. Of course the tike never arrives and you have no come back having dealt outside eBay.

One of our members has put in a lot of work building up a file of evidence and has passed this onto ActionFraud the police specialist Efraud team.


Action Fraud have asked us to ask if anyone has any other info or has been a victim of these scammers to file a report, this will assist in building up a case against them. You can file a report either on line or phone:

We are pretty sure that some of the trikes are US Trikes cloned off Craiglist so pop over and see if you recognise any!

What got me was meeting a guy who had early Alzheimer's who was so desperate to get back in the saddle he fell for it and lost £7000.

Every one of these "scams" have two things in common.

First the price is too good to be true and...

Second the seller wants the cash without you ever seeing the item (and you never will).

Either one should be a big red flag but even if the first hooks you, the second should absolutely stop you in your tracks.

I've bought a lot of big ticket stuff on eBay, but I will only pay the seller when I pick up the cycle or car.

That means I only buy what is within a reasonable distance for pick-up but it would only take one bad transaction to wipe out all the good buys I've found.

The old adage "If it looks too good to be true then it probably is" is as true now as ever it was. Yet hundreds still fall for this.

I got caught in a Trike scam started on Craiglist and supposedly supported by Amazon. The price was good, but, not very low. The Trike was too far our of town to see. Since there are very few Trikes near me to visit, I needed to go far.

First time I've ever been scammed, but, I was. Never received the Trike.

This is not always the case. We found our trike on craigslist, listed at a price that was too good to be true. We had a forum member look at and ride it as it was 800 miles from us. Turns out the bike was real and so was the price, actually got it for less than the advertised price. Those deals are out there, you just need to proceed with caution.

Common members- we aren't all street wise to these scams. Be fair, some innocent buyers out there are oblivious to these things. Being naive doesnt mean you're stupid.

I sympathize with these victims and hope one day the modern cyber world will find a foolproof way of ceasing all fraudulent ways of the crooks having a win.
