3M Fender Wrap

I've heard very positive reviews. And being that my Roadsmith unit is still brand new and free of chips, I'm presently trying to find someone in my area that can do the application.

Bill, it works very, very well! Check with places like window tinting installers. I had mine done by Ziebart which is a company that does auto detailing, under-body spray and truck bed liners, paint protection, window tinting, etc.

If you live near a Mercedes, Lexus, Jag, etc dealers, they will have someone who applies the film to the fronts of the more expensive cars. Mine was installed by a guy who has his own area at the dealers to do installs. And the fender wrap goes all the way over the side of the fender to the first pinstripe and about to the crest of the top of the fender. Now I have a stone chip just past the film....go figure

I had the 3M film installed on mine and I am very happy with it. I have an 09 and had it installed immediately.

I have used it for 7 years on a motor home. It works great; therefore I had it installed on the trike.
A word of caution...do NOT let love bugs or other bugs stay on the film. The film can stain and this is not removable. The stain will gradually fade in time. But be aware that the film is porous.

I have it on mine and after a year it really needs replaced with all the marks from rocks and at one time a piece of chrome trim about 12" long that an 18 wheeler threw up when I was passing him. It did save my finish underneath I think. Trike conversion dealer wants $85 to replace both fenders. I watched the tech last week do 2 of them and it didn't look very hard at all. He sprayed the fenders then used what looked like a plastic flexible piece to push and stretch it around the curve of the fenders and stretch out the wrinkles.

Notice they sell the squeegie separetly. If you did it every year it would pay to do it yourself, but if a one time thing I'd rather have the dealer do it.

Good comments, but from the comments, I'm thinking it needs to be replaced from time to time. My RS installer is charging me $40 and no labor, so that looks reasonable.

On my previous trike, the 3-M film lasted without problem for over 6 years and was still in place when I sold the trike. However, it is fairly easily removed and replaced if necessary.

Who is your dealer? When I bought my RS trike from The Trike Shop in Daytona I had them put the stuff on my fenders. Don't know if they use 3M but I am very happy with it so far. My last RS had a custom paint job that got some nasty chips in the paint. Wouldn't risk a nice paint job again. Cost $72 including installation.

Geez, those are really low prices. The installer who did mine covered the fenders, side covers, the flat area on the body, made small pieces to cover the fronts of the lowers, the fairing and made two angled pieces on the end of the tank where my short fat legs in jeans will rub.

I tried clear and had trouble installing on fronts of fenders. Wrap install had some flat black body wrap material that went on in minutes with no bubbles or wrinkles. He said it comes in nine solid colors. Look at my signature picture.

Had dealer put mine on. Didn't do the greatest job.As far as the film, done a good job with the rocks and bugs. Couldn't get the scuff marks out so covered most of it with fender bibs.

I bought the kit that is advertised on Ebay for trikes. I ended up pitching in, because I couldn't get it to stretch over the contours. Have a professional who has the experience do it.

That was my thought. I get into trouble doing something with no experience. In the end, cost me more $.

I bought a roll of 3M paint protecror, 12" x 58" I made templates of all the pieces I wanted and did the job myself. If you take your time and read the instructions you shouldn't have a problem. Now if a piece needs replacing, I have a lot of extra material left over.

My cost = $52 for enough to last a lifetime.


It's the best money you can spend on your bike - unless you get soaked by an unscruluous installer.

We had it put from the dealer before it rolled off the showroom floor. In my opinion, it is well worth the money!! As stated before, there are some boot scuffs that are kinda hard to remove, and if you use a white paste wax, its a bit chalenging to make sure all the wax is removed around the edge of the film. It has definately saved the fenders from rock chips though!!

An extra-soft bristle toothbrush cleans the edges real good and doesn't hurt the paint.
