    Default new dyno done

Mike, got a call from the dealer today. Said the bike is done. They said they only got 92hp & 99torque. How can there be such a big differance from one dyno to another? Last time they got 100hp & 108torque. This time they took it another place to do it. They did say it seems to run smoother than before. Does that make any sense to you? I guess the HP doesn't make much difference as long as it runs good. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

Let you know more tomorrow. Jim

temperature, humidity elevation the dyno drag settings all will make for a different reading. The same dyno with the same bike can give different reading if done in the morning and then redone in the afternoon. The operator also figures into the equation.

A differance of 8 in tq. and hp. totals seems like alot to me.
That's more than just dyno settings with the exact same motor.

Now you have to question which numbers are the right ones and why?
What did the dealer fix on the motor repair? Did he put your heads back on, or someone elses? Did they put your cams back in or 255's?

If different dyno's make that much differance because of temp, humidity, elevation and dyno drag, morning and afternoon, I would NEVER believe ANY dyno numbers.

I'm with you, something ain't right. Let us know how it feels when you ride it.

If I remember correctly your 1st dyno was done on a car dyno, I'm wondering if they used another car dyno or one for a trike. The manufacturer, the model number and even the software the dyno uses all play a part in the end numbers. To me a dyno is just a tool to tune with, the numbers are just that, how it rides is what counts.

There is a shop in New York which I won't name who gets incredible numbers when he dyno's bikes, the same bike on a different dyno will never come close to the numbers. He has what I call a happy dyno, plus he fudges the numbers around. If you put a bike on a Dynojet DJ150 and then a 250 you'll get 10% lower number on the 250. A Factory Pro brand dyno will give different numbers than a Dynojet brand. The correction factor they use makes a difference, STD will show a higher number than SAE.

As Gorilla said, the atmospheric conditions between one day vs another will impact the numbers. One of the big hitters is the talent of the person doing the tuning.

If you have the map from your 1st tune vs your newest tune you can see what changes they made.

Again, I stand by what I said. If that is the case, then I don't believe any numbers. Including yours Mike.

Jcolson, see if you can still do wheelies when you get it back?

Got the trike back today. It seems to run fine if not smoother than before. Hey Mike, they did take it to Michigan City, & they do have a trike Dyno. Maybe that made the difference. The other place they did the Dyno was for cars. The max HP was 92.20. The torque was 99.42. Big let down from 100hp & 108 torque but it does run better. The other dealer ran the Dyno, not my guy. Alex told me the 1st time that you can fudge the numbers a little.

The HP curve is a smoother line than before & the torque curve. It seems to run stronger, so maybe it's not a bad thing. Remember what you told me before? You told me it's not the hp it's how it runs. Guess what,no pinging either!! I bogged it down alittle & gave it gas & it didn't ping. They left the 104 octane in also. I told them to drain it but oh well. Hopefully next time I go on along trip it will be ok & not use all that oil either. It's alittle chilly in May when my warranty is up.

Happy Thanksgiving & ride safe. Jim

Car Dyno & Motorcycle/Trike dyno are apple and oranges, that'll make a difference in numbers. There is no governing body to uphold a standard for how a dyno should be built or maintained. I'd say around 80% of the dynos used by the motorcycle industry are Dynojet brand, even within its brand there are differences. If you was to see the same bike run on a Dynojet DJ250, then DJ150 and finally a Superflow dyno you would be surprised. The DJ250 will give lower numbers than the 150 and Superflow. The Superflow will shoot you a number that is amazing. Every time I see sheets from a Superflow I move on, its hard to compare it to anything else.

Glad to hear it seems to run better, I hope all you have to do is ride the snot out of it and smile. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving.

Car dyno and trike dyno are 2 different animals, throw in a different dyno manufacturer and the numbers will be different. The only real way to compare numbers is on the same brand and model dyno running the same software, then you only have weather conditions to skew the numbers a little bit.

Mike, the humidity was 8% & temp was 66.15f on this last Dyno.I don't know what # the Dynojet was. I got a lower reading with the lower temp. & humidity. The 1st. time they Dynoed the bike the temp was 81.68f & humidity was 32% plus it was on a car Dynojet. Hard to believe the temp. & humidity makes that big a difference. Jim Happy Turkey Day

They used a DJ250ix which is Dynojet's DJ250i setup for tuning trikes and ATVs.

Same looking mufflers as I have. Now is that the old mans trike? I know yours was a 2011. Alex did say the Dyno was for trikes & atv's. How can they get such different numbers on different Dyno's? I have to readjust the clutch though. Everytime I ask them to adjust the clutch they mess it up. Where do they get these guys? Took it for a ride with two friends today to Notre Dame & took our pictures with the Golden Dome in the back ground. It would creep at stoplights with the clutch pulled in all the way. It was a bitch to shift sometimes. Tomorrow nite I go to the dealership to see if I can win a 2012V-Rod with Nitrous. That would be awsume & dangerous. I'll post some pics in my album since I don't know how to put them on my post. If anyone could tell me how I would appreiate it. Thanks. I'm computer stupid. Jim

Its my dads trike, mine was a blue and silver 2010. The mufflers are Screamin Eagle 4" mufflers. The difference is in the manufacturer and software, no 2 manufacturers dyno's will agree. Some dealers just seem to hire sh!tty technicians for some reason, they give the good dealers with good technicians a black eye.

A Vrod is a nice bike, there pretty quick right off the showroom floor. I could only imagine how nasty it could get with some spray.

The only thing I've ever won was 2gallons of paint from Lowes at one of the contractor lunches. We are suppose to get lake effect snow here today & tomorrow. Next week is showing snow also. I need to adjust the clutch before it gets bad. Hope you didn't eat too much yesterday. Taking my dually in this morning to get the front rims replaced. already had the rears replaced. The salt plays hell around here. I guess around here they use chloride something also, which I hear is worse than salt. Plus you can't run a dually through a car wash. Hand spraying doesn't get the crap off. Have a good one & thanks again for the info. Jim Colson

Ate lots of turkey. I'll bet your thinking calcium chloride, in Ohio they make a brine with it and spray everything that will hold still for it, its bad news for electrical systems and every other nook and cranny you can't flush with large amounts of water.

Your right Mike. Thats what it is. Had a county truck pass by going the other way & got rocks in that crap. Put some nice chips in my paint on my new truck. Talk about pissed. Not as bad as that thing that flew off the semi on the toll road Labor Day weekend & put some nice junks in the fairing. I guess you can't keep them nice forever. Just getting ready to go win that V-Rod. I'd sh--t!!!!!!! Talk to you later. Jim

I don't understand all the clutch adjustment issues I do mine once a year and really do not know if it needs it then. I just do it as part of the maint. in the off season and it seems ok the rest of the year.

I'm curious. How many miles do you log in a season??

Guess what Mike, didn't win the V-Rod. Imagine that. They told me to bring the bike back so they can adjust the clutch again. They have to do it at the clutch. Hope that didn't mess up the Dyno. Jim
