    Default bike protection when trailering?

I will very shortly be trailering my VTX1800R from Massachusetts down to North Carolina for trike conversion. The trailer I'll be using is an open Aluma TK1 trike trailer. Coming back to Massachusetts, I'll be hauling my new VTX1800/Roadsmith trike.

My trailer has a 2' high stone guard and toolbox at the front, but will that be enough protection? Should I try covering the bike/trike with a mover's blanket or something similar, or should I just leave them naked and hope for the best? What would y'all do?

If you think you could get a cover or blankets to stay on, it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Be careful about covering the bike as the wind may cause the cover to rub on the paint and then you could have a big paint issue to try and fix. (don't ask how I know this)

With winter here - and a "NEW TRIKE" I would be looking to borrow or rent an enclosed trailer to bring it home.
Surely one our TT members in your area would help you.If not I hope that the weather gods smile on you!!
Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

Covering any vehicle while transporting on an open trailer is a BAD idea, it will almost always result in some type of paint damage.

If you can raise the stone guard a bit, maybe have it come around the sides some. Or as was already said, borrow an enclosed trailer.

    Enjoy your new ride

I suggest you extend the shield on front of the Aluma trailer to approx. 3.5 to 4'.
I have a 4' shield on front of my trailer and it protects the trike very well, we have trailered it many times that way and no damage.

I agree with Ragtop, do not use a cover, the cover will move in the wind and damage your paint.

    Enjoy your new conversions.

    +1!!!!!

Do "NOT", cover the trike! You will definitely have some damage to your paint from the buffeting of the wind on the cover material you use! Don't ask me how I know.

View my picture gallery of my hauling trailer. I trailered my Stallion from Colorado to Florida and never had a bug splat. By all means Do Not cover. I did with my 1800 wing one time and cost me a new paint job.

enjoy that vtx we have put over 20,000 troule free miles on ours and luv it. if u r still not comfortable transporting on open trailer u can put a good coat of paste wax over it and buff it off when u get home
Remember--It is never the issue but rather how we react to the issue is the issue.

I also have a TK1 trailer. Have trailered my goldwing Hannigan from south Texas to Ohio, Ohio to Phoenix Az. and Phoenix to south Texas. I have not altered the stone guard or covered the trike and have had no problems.

Agree on no cover. Also be careful on how you strap it down for possible wear areas on paint.

Put the cover on it, and then tightly "shrink wrap" it. Pain in the butt but I think it would protect it if you run out of options.
