    Default 2010 is being delivered tomorrow need some help with reverse

    Ok my 1st for real official post.

    I did and am still searching here so...........

    I need a bit of advice and or instruction.
    I just got a call from the trucker.
    My trikes being delivered tomorrow.

    Now just in case.
    Can someone please explain how to use reverse???
    Engine running?? or off??

    Do you put the bike in nuetral, flip a switch or push a button then wait for the light to go out???

    Something on the propper procedure might be nice for me to actually know..
    I have no real clue nor do I even know if there is an owners manual.
    I forgot to ask when I bought it..........
    I dont want to blow it up right off the truck.

    Thanks guys 1 of many questions to come.

    I'm assuming 2010 GL1800? On the throttle side you will see a push button for reverse. With the engine running and the transmission in neutral you want to push that button in and you will see the green Neutral light go out and a yellow one for reverse come on. Once it is in reverse all you have to do is push the starter button in to have it back up, let the starter button out to make it stop.

    Once your done backing up just push the revers button again and wait for the yellow light to go out and the green neutral light to come back on, you'll be out of reverse and ready for forward travel.

    Congrats Jaysgone. You will love it. One more very important suggestion.....When you engage the reverse, give it a couple of seconds to fully engage the reverse. Do not hit the reverse/starter button as soon as you depress the switch. It sometimes takes a second or two to actually engage the unit...If you follow msocko3 and my advice it should work fine.<br />
    <br />
    When you park the trike, some folks use the reverse switch to hold it in place instead of leaving it in gear. Be careful with that, since there are times on steep grades when it is difficult to get it out of reverse. Usually leaving the trike in first gear should do it. If not, carry a block of wood with you.<br />
    <br />
    I'm jealous that you live in an area where you can ride this time of year. Our days are getting pretty limited, and I'm sure msocko3 would agree. Enjoy our ride.

    JaysGone - congrats on the new trike! <br />
    A few more thoughts on the reverse - <br />
    <br />
    You'll find the reverse is slow. Really, really slow. There is no throttle for reverse. It was origanally for a two wheeler, and the speed is set the same as someone in the saddle backing up a bike by leg/foot power. <br />
    <br />
    Even though you have reverse, pe careful of where you park. I try to park so I don't have to use the reverse up hill. On the slight incline of my driveway it works fine, but seems to go slower than when it is on the flat. <br />
    <br />
    As mentioned, don't use it as a parking brake, especially on a hill. If it won't come out of reverse, try rocking the trike a bit to "break the gears loose".

    A lot of time on the flat I back up with leg power or just let the trike roll on it's own is parked rear downhill. Faster than the reverse gearing, and less wear.<br />

    If I remember right your trike is a Motor Trike, check out this manual on the MT site, maybe this will be of some use for you. I ride a Harley and all those buttons would confuse me so bad, I would never figure out how to ride that beautiful trike.<br />

    I never, NEVER, under any circumstances, use reverse as a "parking brake". Since it's attached to the starter I just don't think it's a good idea. Usually I try and park on a level or a light grade. However, if I am out and about in the mountains and am forced to park on something steeper, I carry a small block of wood and place that under one of the tires, usually the front one.

    I have reverse on my 97 1500 ( totally different set up. However I think I can count on my hands how many times have used rev in the 12 years I have owned it. Use your head when parking.

    </div>Agreed! Many parking lots have a slightly sloped surface (look carefully and you can almost always see it). I always park with the front wheel on the "up" side so I can just coast backwards when I leave without using reverse. <br />

    (Reverse on the GL1800 is painfully slow and obviously not meant for regular usage.)<br />
    <br />
    In street parking (parallel), the accepted practice is to back a two-wheeler in to the curb as the roadway generally slopes in that direction. (Takes up less space and easier to head out.) But with a trike I don't do that as my trike is longer than it used to be before converting and the front end would stick out into the traffic pattern. Consequently for parallel street parking I treat it like a car and park it the same way.

    One more thing on the reverse. Once you are in reverse, push the starter button and the
    backup lites should lite up. Only when the starter button is pushed.

    You'll love it.

    If your like me reverse is also used as a parking break ,so don't forget to disengage it before you try to start thr bike..if you forget the bike will not start untill yo do disengage it.

    I never, EVER use the reverse as a "parking" brake. If someone, anyone, happens to back into it there is more of a chance of A) disengaging and allowing the trike to continue to roll and B) the overuse of reverse in this way might damage the starter motor.

    I'll stick to old school motorcycling and use first gear. And if the slope is too great I carry a small block of wood with me.

    To all.
    I took the trike for a lap around the complex and hit the road within 10 minutes.
    This was a week or so ago and 300 miles later.
    Ive taken to it like a duck to water no issues or learning curve for me.
    Might have something to do with 40 years of using anything with a motor for 40 years.
    I am really liking this Motor Trike.
    Not giving up 2 wheels by any means but will use the trike to commute daily.
    Aagain thanks for all the helpfull hints here.
    Turns out the hardest part of this whole deal was learning to work the radio!!!!..
    Ive already added MLB risers and kury larger brake pedal.
    Also put on running boards from my Valk.
    Not a 100% fit but a bit of grinding here and there saved myself a few hundred bucks.

    So Im getting there making myself more commfy.
    Now 2 other things.
    Going to switch the horn and mute button.
    I seem for whatever reason hit the horn rather then the mute.....weird.........
    Ii have to find a single seat setup.
    It has to exist someplace.
    But that will eventually be another post.
    With my leg issues I had to take of the drivers backrest as is to hop on this beast.
    With the rear seat being there it makes it harder for me to mount the trike.

    My dealer who is a rather well known trike dealer, when asked the question :does using the reverse as a parking break hurt the starter ? His reply was in the many years he has been making trike conversions on wings he has NEVER had a problem.And that while CSC and Champion came out with a parking break it was not recomended by our dealer.
