Looking for a VietNam-era civilianized AR-15, with peep sights, in good condition.
Looking for a VietNam-era civilianized AR-15, with peep sights, in good condition.
I'd be interested to see what they're going for these days,,.
Up here they start at about $700 and up depending on the condition
I just bought a Sig M-400 AR last week. very sweet gun for $999.00.
If it's a Colt AR-15 gen 1 or Armalite (aka Eagle Arms) M-15 or M-15 A1 you are looking for, get ready to bust out the Big Bucks. Old School and Pre-Ban are going to start at around $1200-$1500. Any less, best buy it before the seller sobers up or the ether wears off. From what FFL people are telling me, due to Shiek BooRock's re-election and his anti-2nd Amendment agenda for the next 4 years, prices are going through the roof on all weapons especially the "Real Bad" ones. Matter of fact, some FFL have been buying up all the stock and certain accessories they can get and are sitting on it like a stash of precious metal waiting for the market to explode and prices to skyrocket and watch their initial investment appreciate 100-300%. Accordingly, pre-owned sales from individuals ware getting slim and higher priced.
Last one I owned was an Eagle Arms/Armalite M-15 A2 that I bought in 2008 for $650 (seller needed the money) and sold in Dec 2011 for $1100.
Better stock up on ammo too. If "the one" and hillery sign that UN arms agreement, certain higher calibers will no longer be for sale either, along with larger capacity clips.
The UN arms agreement doesn't have anything to do with gun sales in America bought by the American people. The UN CANNOT come into America and abolish our constitutional rights. I know where you people get this stuff but I don't understand why you believe such nonsense. You've been listening to the bugger man again, haven't you...
I'm gonna go check soon, one gun shop around here was selling the DPMS for $600.00 cash. I'm gonna go see if they still have some.
Thanks to all. Great info. And special thanks to those offering to help out. I'm a member of a local POW-MIA Honor Guard Squad. The brother with the gun we used passed on and it went to his son. You guys probably know about a bayonet too ( I hope ) This is not a hobby but a quest, so I'm learning. Thanks again.
Stephen... I know they cant...but it is a great excuse to buy more ammo!! Shhh....!!!
I go into the sun room and roll my own.
DPMS-Panther, New Frontier, etc... YES. you can get a base M4 copy for $600-$700 all day at many places. I understood the OP to be wanting something higher up the "food chain" which sure isn't that and won't be that cheap either. No offense to any owners of those type/brand weapons-they are fine and I have owned and shot a few. However, Colt and Armalite they are NOT and they sure as hell aren't Gen 1s and M-A1/A2s. That's a fact. Most who get those "generics" end up changing and modifying internals, uppers, lowers, and so on to make it suit until they have much more in the rifle than simply getting a top-notch to begin with. If that's the end-game goal, buy pieces to begin with and create your own custom hybrid clothed out individually. Then, you will still end up with around $1500-$2000 in it.
As for UN agendas and resolutions driving weapons/ammo pricing and availability in the US, they Do. Whether directly or indirectly, it shapes Perceptions (both the Supply & Demand sides) which drives Market realities. Obama (et al) and Washington do that AND more through legislation and more so regulation/oversight/taxation which directly control the industry and market as a whole. And,,, They usually do it behind closed doors and covertly under the guise of something that seems and sounds benign as to deflect attention from the real sinister objective. By the time the ramifications of such come to light its too late and we are left mourning our freedoms and lamenting the further erosion of rights. Given those facts and realities, it is prudent and wise to stay tuned in and informed. Last 30 years of historical preceedent bares inarguable testimony to that reality.
Enough hijack and my apologies to the OP for straying to a tangent.
P.s. "Roll Your Own" ammo---
You can buy an AR 15 Vietnam era around $1,400 to $2,000.00 it might be more now.
For the M-16 selected fire start at $12,000.00 and up to $35,000.00
Yikes! I had no idea. I needed one to replace the weapon we lost when a member of our local POW MIA Squad passed on. Can't really justify that cost. Is there such a thing as a non-working ceremonial model? Thanks for your insights.
Yes to your question.Check the Air-Soft replica market. They have exact copy guns that that only fire plastic BB's.
I have a Thompson ""Chicago Typewritter" that I use as a photo prop with my old Packard antique car.It is exact weight and demensions and most people can not tell it from a real one.Cost me $250 used.
Just an idea that might work for you.
Yes, they do produce one for drill practice purposes that is utilized by the Army (and other Branches I'm sure) that is made to the exact size and features of the M-16/M-4 comprised of a rubber type compound. It's easily a "ten-footer" regarding telling the difference.
Also, you might look at a M&P .22 model. They are built on a very similar AR framework and can be had for around $400 (or less?) still from what I have seen on the usual sources. But, that's quite an expensive 22 and maybe just as difficult to justify.

Dat Be The One.
I don't know why I always call it a "M&P".
But, just looked again and local "Craig's List" type site shows local Dealer selling them for $649 now. OUCHERZ!
You can get a Mossberg 715T for less than $300 that looks similar but of course is not the quality of the S&W. 2 of these listed on VCI local site. One for $279 and one at $330. But, they have either 10 or 25 round capacity so Get 'em While You Can before Shiek BooRock and Beloved Leader Fein-Ken-Stein's Monster pay us all a visit in the night...
No, the thing you have to do are: find the M 16 which is can be able to transfer to private individule (they are some on the market) then get a transfer form form BATF & E, two finger print cards, two passport pictures and certified yourself the citzenship, take the form have sheriff sign approval then mail $200.00 and all the items above to NFA branch assdress at the top right of the form and wait fo 3-6 month to get approve.
