Throttle assembly and Cable issue…

This is what happens when you buy items before knowing what you’re doing.

I have a throttle that was sticking for some time and around Thanksgiving the cable broke near the throttle end. The Barrel end broke off. Since the cable condition was bad anyway, I did not want to repair it... So I bought a new cable from RatRaceProductions.com via E-bay. (not paying attention that it was not a barrel cable end)
My set up is using a 7/8” Jap handlebar. I need to replace the throttle assembly anyway.
My Questions are:
Is there a single cable throttle assembly that takes the ball end or do I need to find a new barrel end to solder onto the new cable?

Either way what new assemble would you guys suggest? I was leaning toward this type: Universal 7/8 Single Cable Throttle Assembly Chrome

I'm running that single cable assy with that throttle housing on 1" bars, havent had any problems so far. Very easy to set up.

so that cable should work on that assembly without an alteration to the ball end?

I e-mailed Chuck from RatRace with the same question around the same time I posted this thread.
He jut responded with "those look right but make sure you know your handlebar size". I've measured to make sure... so I guess I'll be placing an order.

I have the rat cable and the throttle assembly like the one you show. Works well

Mine has a ball end. The only thing I did different was to fill the space around the ball with JB Weld to limit movement of the ball. I twisted hard enough one time that I broke the glue seal between the twist tube and cover. The cable held up.

Slightly cheaper (by $10 including shipping) with same delivery date and I like the "Old School" grips.

I had a similar incident with the cable on my home built. I was riding home on what should have been a two hour trip and got caught early on in a pouring rain. To top it off, my throttle cable cable broke, like yours, at the grip end. Fortunately, I had a small pair of vise grips in my tool bag and was able to free the cable from the grip assembly. I removed the "j" tube from the cable housing, clamped the vise grips to the broken end of the cable and used them to operate the throttle. While it was a bit clumsy, I managed to make it home. The trip ended up taking four hours instead of two, and oh yeah, it stopped raining as soon as I hit the driveway...

I have aftermarket HD style controls with a single cable, and the cable has the barrel type end, this one held in place by a tiny set screw. The repair was pretty straight forward. I threaded a new cable through the housing after lubing it with white lithium grease and reassembled it in the grip and at the carb linkage.
