Default MLB risers

Well I guess I know myself better then to have put it in print but.
Im already tearing into my new to me 1 week old trike.
Today I put on the Kury brake pad extention big w00p there as its a no beer job.

Then I put on the MLB risers.
    http://wingstuff.com/products/2361-h...?from_search=1
Are then any better then the Kury set any worse??
Who knows??, all I do know is they were $10 more.

I got I guess what is the standard set about in 1 inch up 1.5-2 back and for me most important 2 inches in closer together.
They feel alot differnet then stock does thats for sure.
    Better for me??
    Dunno Ill find out tomorrow.
Will see how much less my shoulder hurts when I get to work.

    Now a few things.
Both their instructions and Hondas Manual.
    They both stink.

1st thing it says to do is remove the speaker grills.
    So what did I do??
I literally tried to take off the mesh speaker grills.
    WRONG!!!!
They dont come off and of course now I have a slightly but thankfully not badly mared up panel.

Both sets of directions tell you to remove the clips at the top and bottom of the grills.
Well they aint there. There arent any on the mesh grills..

Im sure most of you know whats next.
Just pull the whole dang panel thing off of the bike.
20 minutes futzing with the speaker grills for a 2 second yank of the whole panel.
Then of course theres the clips for the tweeters and the heated stuffs harness.
I had pulling a tough time with the clips coming apart too.
Never enough wire to see where the clip release is.

    Anyway a 30 minute job.
1 beer is all it is in reality.
Took me an hour. Due to the instructions.

Next time Im changing something on this tupperware bike.
    Ill ask here 1st.

Now the same exact post is going into tje 1800 forum so sorry for repeating if you read both.

    Jay

The Kury multiple adjustments turned me off. I went with MBL.

Personally, I don't like messing with the aesthetics of the equipment like that. I try to keep things on the "stock" side as much as possible in that area.

If that is the case, why did you convert to a TRIKE???

Because, medically, I cannot ride two wheels any longer.

I installed MLB risers on my 2004 1800 Champion trike and love it. The stock spread of the bars hurt my shoulders and forearms after a day of riding.

This option took 1 hour to install and well worth the money. I know alot of 1800 riders on 2 wheels that added this option as well.

So where does a person find information on MLB risers, I mean other than on this forum. If I want to buy some and compare them to Kury risers?

I have not done speakers in a while. If I remember correctly you remove the turn signals and get to them that way

One of the major points of my starting this topic was to make sure folks know that the one manual thats easily available.
Doesnt work for the newer bikes.
    One should ask before leaping.
I happen to have gone to a Honda dealer for something else yesterday.
The plastic grill work that I messed up by following the wrong instuctions.
    Will cost me 258 $$$$.
    That was the main purpose.
The other of course was in doing a search on risers for this bike.
The MLB seemed to be the best alternative to me what was almost enough to make me get rid of the trike.
I still find it hard to believe that the flagship bike of Honda.
Is so dang nonadjustable for the simpleest things.
The posistion of the handle bars and the foot shifter.
What still may make me get rid of it yet is.
No such thing as a single seat being the main isssue for me.

The other gentelman posted he doesnt change things and did the trike for medical reasons.
    Well so did I.
I cant swing my legs over the high back seat easily.
I can get on the vehicle from the left side for now albeit a bit awkard.
Not possible from the right side at all.
Now as my condition gets worse.
    It will.
Im diabetic and have some bum pins<Neuropathy>.
I can see having to sell this particular trike.

Yes, I did get a trike for medical reasons. My doctor told me that, since my surgery, I would not be able to hold up a two wheeler. If I would be sitting at a traffic light and something would have happened the bike would fall. And I would be without a way to pick it back up. So he initially suggested a trike.

I spent two years ((yes, TWO years)) researching the various trikes available. DFT, Champion, Motor Trike, et al. Along with the multitude of brands, Harley, Honda, Yamaha.

About six weeks after my surgery I went to a Harley dealer to look at the 2010 trike. I was still using a walker at the time and I was quite impressed with the salesman that came over to talk to me. He took the time to help me climb aboard one.

We talked for about two hours and he knew the entire time that I was not going to be able to get one for quite some time.

THAT really impressed me.

without getting in to a lot of details, I had to wait for an insurance settlement before I could make any purchase.

I joined TrikeTalk in April of 2012 as the final paperwork for the settlement had been done and I was just waiting for everything to go through the legal motions.

I was still considering a Harley at that time. Well, as the time got closer for the settlement to arrive I went back to the Harley dealer. I was taken aback when one dealer came up with a 42,000 out-the-door price and another dealer was more concerned with getting me to sign loan papers.

I had already been in contact with Coach Rice Trikes and he happened to have just got a 2001 Goldwing in with extremely low mileage for a conversion. That's the one I ultimately purchased.

Anyway, you are correct when you say that the 1800 is a bit harder to customize. Since you are having such bad issues with it you might want to consider going to a 1500 series. The Goldwing in that series is much easier to add what you want. You may want to even look at a Valkyrie. No reverse on that one though.

Even the Harley can be customized to whatever you want.

Just a little food for thought.

In another post you said that you had never seen any Goldwings in your area in 12 years of riding. I find that a bit hard to swallow considering you are in Delray Beach, Florida.

You may want to take another look around. There are numerous dealers in your area that allow the Honda Riders Group to meet there.

I am sure there are a number of them that ride the Wing. You can also contact the local chapter of the GWRRA. Here is their contact information.....

gwrider2up@gmai l.com

I don't know what you rode over the past years. Evidently it was either not a lot of riding or you just weren't going to the right places.

My trike arrived on July 31st of this year. I have already been on numerous group rides and have been asked by a few groups to join them.

I do ride wth one on a regular basis, and that's the Patriot Guard.

Look around, I am sure you can find something.

For one thing I didnt do my home work before buying the trike.
I do have a 1999 Valk with 14K miles on it I had planned to trike.
I was all set up with this guys parts he does make reverse.

    American Trike

His so called dealer here in Ft Lauderdale wont work on metrics so there went that deal.
Thats when I decided to buy the Honda without really looking into it.
I have an 05 Yamaha RoadStar too.

I use my bikes to commute to work.
As far as this Delray bunch goes its not for me.
I dont ride in groups on weekends nor have any intrest in doing so.
I can honestly say in my daily commute for 12 years here.
I have not seen a single GoldWing.
Ive been riding mainly using bikes for commuting for over 38 years.
So I have a bit of riding experience.
Just plain made a boo boo with my non preperation before buying this trike.
I still find it hard to believe that the flagship bike of the Honda world is a one size fits all.

Ill cut the back half of seat off if I have to and bolt it on some other way.
When and if it comes to that.

Before you get to cutting I would try to find a decent auto upholsterer someplace. Take the seat in and see if they can do something. As long as there is no damage done to the seat pan about anything they do will still fit.
Explaining to them what you want would go a long way into getting a professional job.

I still find it hard to believe that the flagship bike of the Honda world is a one size fits all.

A "One Size Fits ALL" It's Not. A "One Bike Fits Most" It most definitely Is. Also, it CAN be personalized to suit a huge variety of individuals and their personal tastes, ergonomic needs, and unique idiosyncrasies. Given the plethora of GoldWing Owners I have had the distinct pleasure of coming in contact with both personally and professionally over the years-in all shapes & sizes-from all walks of life-from all over North America and the World, I can honestly and factually avow that your take overall is far from accurate. It obviously does not suit you. No harm & No foul. I fail to see how that is any fault of Honda (or ANYone else) or You or how it can be construed as a conviction against the Wing whether in 2-wheel or 3-wheel form. It IS what it IS and you are who you are. I'm sure Honda or any GoldWing Owner/Enthusiast won't belabor or bemoan you for not liking or fitting it.

Before you or anyone get all "wadded-up", chapped or sensitive, I personally don't mesh with the GL to my individual and unique satisfaction either.

But, Them's The Breaks, C'est La Vie and in the overall scheme of things doesn't mean squat.

It for sure does not damn or detract from Honda, the GL, or the vast majority of Motorcyclists and Trikers who love them.

It is without a doubt an awesome Bike from a proven Manufacturer and makes for an equally awesome Trike for thousands and thousands of people world-wide.

For one thing I didnt do my home work before buying the trike.

Just plain made a boo boo with my non preperation before buying this trike.

Yepperz. That obviously pretty much nails it. Again, C'est La Vie and Life goes On. Here's to better Practices, Execution, and Outcomes for you next time.

Like T.A. Edison said regarding this type experience,,, You didn't Fail you just discovered the way to NOT make an intelligent and informed buying decision on a Bike/Trike.

That's not entirely true. I know many, MANY people that have made their bikes fit their own personality and riding characteristics.....

    Yes it is me!
This is exactly how I also mount and dis-mount my trike. I've already shown a few people how this is done and they really prefer it! Very easy and comfortable.
