E15 Gas... Any questions?

Mike and I avoid it like the plague! But hearing the detailed explanation here is very interesting! Thanks for posting it, Wiz :)

I wouldn't touch that stuff with a 10's pole. From running my brothers dragster I know what Methanol can do to a fuel system if it isn't designed for it or taken care of. Folks also don't realize what its doing internally to the engine also. Every day before we put the dragster to bed we would fire it up and with the fuel shutoff pushed in I would feed a pint bottle of racing gas through the butterflies of the injector hat. This served to lube the rotors on the blower along with the valves and combustion chambers.

One thing most folks who never did something like this would see is black spots on the bearings and oxidation here and there through out the engine. This was from a combination of condensation and fuel contamination in the oil. We never experienced any of this, the engine and all its surfaces where just a pristine at tear down as when it was put together.

I sure don't understand our government shoving this crap down our throats! It has less BTU content, therefore creates less horsepower, and less fuel economy than 100% gas. Therefore it does not save gas because more of this mixture is burned to obtain the same power. First they started by removing the lead and now adding ethanol. Next they will tell us we have to run WATER in all our gasoline engines, after all it is 2 parts Hydrogen (fuel) and one part oxygen (aids fuel burning) so wait, some idiot in Washington will think that makes sense.

last yr i bought a nice honda civic coup (the car all the teenagers want) at a good price i thought -until i started having running problems.... end of story is -- i had to replace the entire fuel system starting with the tank... the car had set for less than a yr,,,, this is only E10.

Many of the farm states are pushing for the E gases. Here in North Dakota you find E10 everywhere. In fact you will find some stations have reg. grade gas with E10 as well as mid grade with E10. Here in Jamestown the mid grade is 5 cents cheaper than regular grade because it has ethanol in it and the reg. doesn't. Cenex stations also sell E30 and E85. Back a couple years ago when E85 first came out the state dropped the state tax on it to help promote it. About three dozen stations around the state started selling it. The tax break was there for about 6 months and then dropped. People weren't buying it after trying it a couple times as they found out their gas mileage would drop about 25% to 35% in their Flex Fuel vehicles. There are still a few stations (mainly Cenex) that still sell E85 but not many. Also during the winter your vehicle doesn't run as hot either as ethanol runs cooler than gas. That may be alright in the summer but in the winter when it is below 0 temps you would like more heat out of your heater and defrosters.

This position of the EPA is so typical of this agency. Anyone that has ever had to deal with these idiots will attest to that fact.

if you think whats being said about E-15 is misinformation then you need to come down to Florida. See the number of gas tanks that are made out of fiberglass that are melting from just E-10. Most trailer boat guys buy their boat gas from the car stations. Most gas in Florida is E-10. If the tank is fiberglass (which was a popular way before E-10) it is having issues. I have a neighbor that run a boat fiberglass business that is very very busy from this.

Then is the problem with the fuel? Or with the materials used to build the tank?

This has been on the local news the past few days and it seems that a few of our Florida state reps are actually trying to get rid of ALL ethanol in the gas here. Sure will help with the mileage and lower trucking/farming etc...

It sure would be nice to see it catch on and spread across the country. The only thing Ethanol production for fuel use is welfare for farm industry. There has been speculation that the US could become the largest oil producer by 2017. Another thought is we are natural gas wealthy, why not take the money being tossed away on Ethanol production and put it into natural gas distribution.

Well sounds to me like our goverment needs a good ass kicking (out of office) Kinda like the Sandy aid loaded with pork for other states..... sounds to me like we the people are now we the BLIND !
