We're starting to look at CB radios for our 2008 Gold Wing trikes. The Scala G4 has worked pretty well for the 2 of us but looks like we'll be in company of other trikers this year.

We know there is the OEM and after-market radios. We're just wondering which radio most of you have.

Also, need to know which antenna most of you are using.

We've read pros/cons on other forums regarding the OEM vs after-market and we need to make a decision of which one to purchase. We thought if we could get a feel for how many own which radio/antenna, then that would sure help the decision-making.

The Voyager VII's we rode for so many years came with a CB that was excellent and we enjoyed group riding with them.

We bought the J&M CB radios for the cruisers - never did work right - very disgusted with them - went to the Scala G4.

Apologies if this is a time-worn subject, but a search of the forum did not yield too much..... or else I'm just not searching right.

Again.. we're just asking which CB & antenna you have on your trike.

Many thanks to all..

We had a CB on Her Purpleness, our GL1500SE. It was useful at times, but now that we have an 1800 with no CB, thinking on how much we really used it, I'm not sure if buying a CB that integrates with the 'Wing is cost effective. Even the less expensive units are more around $500 or more, and for that kind of money I guess I'll follow someone with a radio and wait to talk until we stop. I's put one in in a minute though if I had the extra coin.

I have an oem cb and antennae. I don't use it much but have found it helpful for listening about traffic situations. Also, in group riding if others have one. Mytransmit switch just stopped working. Need to get it looked at next time in the shop. Not sure I'd spend the $$$$ if I had to do it again though.:)

MJ and I ride about 15k a year on our trikes. Mostly together. We did not know how much they gave us the security to speak to each other NOW then when mine was not working. We do chat alot to each other but it is nice when you see something unusual to be able to point it out then. And there have been several times that it was a necessary transmission to go out now or things may not be good. We would not be without ours if we were going on a long trip.

I do have the OEM radio and antennae on my trike. It doesn't work very well and I'm considering a few different avenues to go at the time. Depending on your fabricating ability, my thoughts are headed towards a Cobra 29 with blue tooth. If you were to mount it on your bars, of course you would want to be able to remove it and cover in the event of rain. but, if you mount it in your trunk somewhere, out of sight, out of mind..... Of course, you still have the blue tooth capabilities to adjust volume and and you have a better radio. I think I've just given myself a winter project. Oh, the antennae and mounting bracket can begotten at Sierra Electronics. Just a thought as crazy as it sounds.
I may be way off base here, because I do not know how this radio actually works, but it sounds like a good idea. Hopefully some one else can add something.

Might be a little late on this but here goes...I have a 2004 Wing with OEM radio and Antennae, and have had no problems at all. My friend has a 2006 Wing with the same and he has never had his CB work properly. He had it at the dealer several times, took it to a radio expert in Northern Tennessee, bought new hand mike, new helmet mikes cords, the works.. Still sounds garbled when he talks into it and if anyone talks into it the same thing happens. If the bike is sitting still it seems better but barely. If there are other good after market choices please consider them. Honda is no help if you have problems with it
