Are you going with a "kit" or doing your own design. I know Motortrike has a dealer in your area. Maybe see you around some day.
Hi everyone, I trust those of you living in areas where you can ride at this time of year are having a great time and those in colder climates, like me, are antsy waiting for spring and riding season to return.
Just before Christmas, I bought myself a great gift... a 1991 Yamaha Venture Royale that I will be triking!! I had a 1983 Yamaha 650 Maxim triked a few years ago, it has been awesome and it's time for me to up size... "Go Big or Stay Home"!! With the 650 most of the work was done by others, though I did pull some wrenches too. Now my 'trike builder' is retired and though he is willing to 'consult' and walk me through it, he will not do the work... I will be doing most of it. One of the things I learned is that I must have the right rear-end to match the bike's gear ratios in order for it to be optimum... also that disc brakes would be better than drums. Okay..... that being said, I am wondering if any trike builders out there could give me some information on matching gear ratios, something I know nothing at all about.
The gear ratios on the Venture Royale are:
1st gear 39=15 (2.600)
2nd gear 39=22 (1.772)
3rd gear 31=23 (1.347)
4th gear 31=29 (1.068)
5th gear 29=32 (0.906)
What would the gear ratio of the rear-end need to be? What vehicle(s) would have that rear-end?
Any and all input would be gratefully accepted. I thank you all in advance!!
Oh... and have I told you... ? Hahaha.
Free on Three;
"Trinity"
Riding trike is, for me, a spiritual experience, so a dear friend gave me the name Trinity.... Spiritual (Body, Mind, Soul) and the 3 wheels. My brother (rides 2 wheels) asked why I don't ride my new bike as a 2 wheeler. I told him a few good reasons. I should just have said: I was Born2Ride3!!

Hi Chumbly!! No, I'm not going with a kit. I want to do an "old school" conversion so need to figure out what I need to find for a rear end. Was talking on the phone to my brother in Ladner this evening and he figures I need a 2.566 final drive rear end. I haven't a clue how he figured it out, but since no one else seems to know I guess I'll have to take his word for it, hahaha. So now I am looking on the internet to see if I can find info on what cars have/had high gear rear ends close to this ratio. Wish me luck. I might need it, lol. Yes, we are sort of in the same neck of the woods, so you never know, we could meet one day.
