who pays for registration

im not even sure if you use that term over in the USA, but here we have a system where the vehicle must be registered to be on road. when you buy a vehicle the seller has to get a roadworthy certificate the go to the department of transport with the roadworthy and get it registered, this is what keeps the licence plates valid
if your vehicle is unregistered the same applies, but once you have a roadworthy and you go to the department of transport, they will issue licence plates to you for that vehicle.

As i have purchased a 2012 trike with 700 miles on it, who pays for the registration, me or the dealer???
if it makes any difference the trike was purchased in North Carolina.

As far as I would guess, the buyer usually pays the registration and taxes (taxes based on cost of trike). Assuming it is being registered in your name. In New York, the dealers are able to register it and put plate on it for you, but you still pay. Best bet is to ask dealer about NC.

You pay, Same as with any vehicle purchased in the States.
The fee varies by State, ie, NJ= 58 Dollars

You should not have to pay NC taxes or have a NC tag/registration. These taxes would be paid in your home. I bought a bike in Wisconsin one summer and did not have to pay Wisconsin sales tax or Wisconsin registration/tag. When I got home to Florida I went to the tax collector and paid Florida sales tax and registration. While I was in Wisconsin I rode it on the Florida tag from the bike I traded in. If you do not have a tag to use, I don't know exactly how you accomplish riding it in the USA if you are going to do that.

shipping is around $1800 AU dollars, at present the AU dollar is worth about $1.04 US.
there is about $400 for customs and quarantine.
the biggest expense is making the trike ADR (australian design rules) compliant, this will cost about $5000.

ok ive got my registration sorted, thanks for the tips. managed to do insurance online, but i suppose being a foreigner they have to bump the price a bit. i took some advice i found elsewhere on this site and upped the cover, and took uninsured and under insured cover too. full cover for us and the trike cost $359 for 1 month...still its peace of mind if something bad should happen far from home

Woe, I am in Mississippi US, registration is $6., insurance value $16500. just past $300. year.

It is a 2007 Yamaha roadstar with Champion kit, 1 year old now on kit. just past 5000 miles total
