rear suspension

i own a 99 roadstar trike and just want some feedback on the rear suspension. ok it still has the mono shock and also has two shocks bolted to the diff and the underside of the body. i beleive the mono shock has run it,s course in life and that is why i have a rough ride in which it kills my back at times. my question is should i make it into a hardtail and just rely on the two rear shocks for better ride, it,s like i have two suspensions fighting against one another at present. when i do have someone on the back and i hit a rough section of road the front of the rear guards will pull down hard on the tyres and scrape which i have found is caused by the mono shock. just need some feedback and know what you guys run before i go ahead and do something that wont make any difference. thanks in advance. steve.

Have you tried adjusting mono shock up or down just to find where it dampens [sweet spot so to speak] may help ,or air ride, hard tail is just what it is. Rick

Consider stiffening the monoshock, and if the IRS can be adjusted-soften them as well. One other thing comes to mind, air pressure-if you are running over 20 or 22 lbs, it could have a very rough ride dynamic. Play with it and you could resolve the issue. What mfg made the conversion kit?

thanks for the replies. i was wondering wether hardtail was the way to go or not my only problem is i dont have the tool to adjust the mono shock as it never came with the trike. i do have a spanner that is the right size but i,ve gotta cut it up and weld back together to be the right shape to adjust the mono shock. the shock has probably seen it,s use by date as it,s now 14 years old, anyway i,ll have to get the grinder and welder out to fix the problem. the rear end was built by a business here on the gold coast.( eagle trikes) it runs a solid diff with chain drive. with regard to the air shock i,ve yet to find someone that makes them for the roadstar but i know you guys will steer me in the right direction. worst part about australia and motorbikes is if it,s not a harley then you have to sort information and parts from overseas. seriously harleys nowadays are like arseholes, everyone,s got one.
