Front turn signal harness question

Hi everyone...I got a new 2013 Triglide and am looking forward to getting out on the road as soon as the weather allows and the snow melts.

In the meantime, I want to add LED's to the front turn signals. I have the custom dynamics LEDS and load equalizer.

Here's my question about connecting the load equalizer...I see where it should plug & play for the rear run/brake/turn harness (under the seat behind the battery). Is this the location I use to plug in the LE for the front turn signals as well? Or, is there another connector dedicated to the front signals?

I've searched everywhere and can only find info about the one run/brake/turn harness that I've located under the seat.

Remove the fairing.
It is under the front Batwing Fairing......either next to or below the radio.

Please someone chime in, but I thought if you were going to do LEDs you would have to do both front and rear turn signals, not just front or rear?
And will this apply to a trailer, if you are towing one, they also would have to be LEDs?

Why do LEDs turn signals require the addition of a load equalizer or a non-load dependant flasher?


The turn signal unit or flasher is load dependent, it needs a certain amount of current to function. Many bikes are designed to flash at a faster rate if a bulb is burned out. Since LEDs draw much less current, your flasher unit may act as if a bulb is out and flash at the faster rate. If you replace either the front or the rear turn signals with LEDs, you will typically need to add a load equalizer. If you replace both front and rear with LEDS, you will typically need 2 load equalizers. Many bikes have a 2 or 3 wire flasher that can be replaced with our non-load dependent flashers, these flashers are not self canceling but replaces the need for a load equalizer.

I have done just my rear tail light to LED and not the front yet. But did need a load equalizer for my trike.I have heard some may need one and some may not need a equalizer. The rear equalizer will work for both the bike rear LED lights and the trailer.

So you are telling me most bikes have two equalizers, one front, one rear? OK, I thought they only had one.

Due to the low resistance load on LED lighting they may need to have a equalizer for the turns signals and even affect the Harley Secuirty system. The turn signals may flash normal at first then go into rapid flash mode like mine did before the equalizer was installed..
Like I stated some may not need a equalizer from what I have heard.

Every single light on my 11' TG is LED and I have added more than the stock OEM, including amber LED's on the crash bars facing forward that are also running/turn signals and the extra tourpac lights from HD that wrap around the back and are also running/turn signal. 8 lights in the front and 8 on the rear. I have NEVER installed an equalizer and everything works just fine. My tech told me while installing them that no eaqualizer is needed and he was right.

I've added LEDs (rear only on my last two bikes and this trike and haven't needed a load equalizer yet. From what I understand, even with the same style bikes/trikes, some do and some don't and no one seems to know why.

Sort of along the same topic. Has anyone else heard that you shouldn't use LEDs on turn signals? Because of the way light comes out of the bulb, mainly only visible from directly behind the light, that cars in the next lane over can't see them on the rear signals. Not sure that would hold true on the front turn signals.

Any car can see my turn signals no matter what lane they are in. I have followed other bikes with LED turn signals and have no prob seeing them from anywhere either. Have never heard that one before.

If you're talking about the tourpak turn signals and the turn signals on the fenders, I would totally agree that they're very visible and are nice and clear using LEDs. I was referring more to the turn signals found on the Ultra's, the small flat lenses (couldn't you read my mind?!?!?!). Not an issue on trikes I grant you, but was just curious if anyone had heard that same thing.

Last summer I put the HD LED rear turn signals on my 2011 TG. The HD LED package for the TG came with a load equalizer as part of the kit. So I installed it per the instructions. I assume that the TG kit came with a load equalizer for the rear kit that would mean the TG needs it and is not an option. It was a simple unplug the existing equalizer under the seat toward theback, tie wrap the new equalizer in place (leaving the existing one where it was) and plugging in the wires to the new equalizer. Took me a lot longer to remove the back rest than to install the equalizer and the rear turn signals.

Hey Dakota...Hope your winter is almost done up there.!! I did the same as you only mine didn't come with an equalizer!... Installed 'em myself in about 20 minutes. Dunno why it was not there, but have had zero problems. Holler at me when you come down to Nampa this year!

I replaced the fender turn signals/brake lights with Kuryakyn LEDs on my 2013 TriGlide and also did not need the load equalizer. I'm not sure why some work and some need the equalizer, but if you do need it, you'll see those lights flashing like crazy. Mine did flash really fast for about 5 seconds and then returned to normal and haven't had any problems since then.

Guess there has to be somewhat of a mind to read, so that could have been the problem. I swear the ol' brain cells seem to be dying out quicker than they used to.
