    Default fuel range

i guess this may have been asked before somewhere, but whats the approximate range for a tri glide on the open road per tank of gas, does anyone know how much towing a trailer will cut that range back?? i do realise speed, road conditions gradient etc will alter the final outcome, just looking at a ball park figure to see how much fuel i need to carry with us in fuel cells.

We did 2 trips last year 1 from Missouri to Texas and back and the 2nd from Missouri to Montana and back. I pulled the trailer in my avatar picture and averaged 27.5 MPG (US) on both trips. We mainly travel the backroads and aviod the Interstate highways because we like the scenery better and we run about 65 to 75 MPH most of the time. I plan my stops at no more than 125 miles and carry an extra 2 gallons for that "just in case" event. I suffer little to no drop in MPG with this trailer.

Just filled up yesterday and hit 214 miles on that last tank (it was on E tho) -
I've averaged everywhere from 29 to 39, it really depends on how hard I ride.

Hi oneup. When riding my 2009 triglide usally run in the 34-35 range with or without a trailer. Have stage one street sleeper with fat shots and Woods 555 cams. Have it tuned with the screamin eagle tuner.

Our 2009 and 2011 Tri's average 34 to 38 mpg. The '09 has 30K+ miles on her, and mileage doesn't vary much with altitude, or speed, unless we really push it. On long trips we start looking for gas around 150 miles, I get a 'light' around 180 miles. My Butt usually runs out before the gas does. Old age gives you the need to stand up.

At 150 to 160 miles I start looking for gas it will probably make 200 miles but you're going to be on fumes.

I don't know Livin2Ride, but if he is anything like me than MPG's are not 'that' important, it's how fast you can get from one point to another or one scenic view to another. Some say I have a screw loose, but I say I have a screw torqued down & safety wired in place and it requires speed to keep it there. I've checked the MPG on my TG once and it was after a ride with a friend & a friend of his, there is a good story, but I don't want to waste space. The main thing is that the friends friend learned to fear the speed & handling of a TG and when I hit the button on the calculator all I could say was 'oh f___' and I learned to fear MPG calculators.

Yep...Mine gets somewhere around 32 mpg no matter how I ride it. But, I dont care what it gets. If it runs, sounds, and looks how I want it to,,,gets me where I wanna go, helps me see what I wanna see, and makes me happy to ride,,,then I dont care what the mpg is. We just ride, and stop for gas when it needs it, or if we need a break.

under normal conditions i dont pay much attention to MPG either, my question is about us riding in remote areas in a country we dont know, we know where petrol stations are outside of main towns, for example crossing death valley. there are a few localities which may have petrol stations, they may be ghost towns, or they may not be open all hours. im just trying to avoid getting us both stuck somewhere without fuel.

A good tune plus the quality of gas can make a difference on MPG..

I went back and checked the fuel statistics I have kept for the Tri Glide. In the 55 fill ups I have tracked the average MPG is 34.02. The average range I have gone before fueling up has been 181.94. In southern New England there is not much elevation change. I ride two up about half the time and I do not pull a trailer.

    ,

Yep, 32 is about the best I can do as well with the TriWing RS conversion. I was hoping for better, but it is what it is. Maybe AmsOil, but I don't that would improve the mpg. 32 is two up riding, no trailer. I don't know how some can squeeze 37/39 mpg.....

92fxsts, I cut your quote off there, because I really don't care that much about the fuel mileage, but I am not a speed demon either.

When we travel we run the TG and the trailer loaded with all we need and since we are both rolling wrecks in the medical dept. we tend to carry extra stuff.

I just looked at the mileage records from the Montana trip. I got a LOW of 20 MPG running on I90 at 75 MPH pushing a heck of a headwind, but I got a HIGH of 41/42 two days riding around in Yellowstone pulling the trailer. Somedays I get 30+ somedays not, the AVERAGE is 27.5.

Fuel quality and elevation play big in that MPG.

Oh yeah...I didnt think about you being over here in the USA and ridin' in unfamiliar territories where gas may be an issue. I think most places you will be, there are plenty of gas stations to keep you busy. I dunno about Death Valley though, and I am sure that would not be a fun place to run outta gas. Maybe someone on here with more experience in that furnace can help you with that one.

+1 on trent's comment on there being plenty of gas stations, even in rural areas. I used to carry an aux fuel container but never used it for myself. Did use it to assist others out of gas stopped along the highway. I stopped carrying it. - Russ

Mine has 457 miles on it, I filled up today it took 4 gal. went 138 miles last fill up, if my math is right that's 34.5 mpg, But, I drive like an old man, which is what I am .
