What is hard on the transmission is if the shifter is heavy either up with the rear foot peg end or down with the front foot peg end, it keeps pressure on the shifting fork thus causing a transmission problem. Keeping your foot on the shifter will also put pressure on the shifting fork. I have a add-on heel-toe shifter and had to add weights to the rear of the bar because it was front heavy. Bottom line is that the shifter bar should be balanced or at least mostly balanced.
