Burn MP3 disk for Harman Kardon radio

Hi all -
I have a 2013 TriGlide, with the stock Harman Kardon radio. I've been trying to burn an MP3 CD to use on rides, but all I've managed to do so far is create coasters. Some will work in my PC, but not on the trike.

I've used iTunes, Nero and Windows Media player.

Any tips or instructions out there? I haven't found anything by searching.

I have no problems burning MP3 CD's for the bike. I just use the 128 rate & put them all in groups of what ever type of music. I don't separate the music, I just put all the same type on at the same time.

I can get about 6hrs on one CD. Make sure you aren't trying to use DVD's just CD's.

If it doesn't work in the computer,,,,, it won't work in the bike. Use a format for use in all stereos, or players. Use nothing special for a format. Try another MP3 player.

If it works in there, it should also work in the bike.

CD's are fine, but I would switch to an actual MP3 player. I got one from Wal-Mart for $25. I have over 1000 tunes on it and 1 AAA lithium battery will run the thing 8 hours a day for 4+ weeks. I just turn it on put it on shuffle and go.

I've been burning CD and DVD since the first burners came out. I burn CD's from my computor and a stand along recorder(burner) in my stereo system. When I got my 03 Ultra the CD's wouldn't play in it. I found out it was the disks themselves and not the recorder. I was using the 80 minute disks and someone told me to use smaller disks so I switched to 74 minute diskd(hard to find except on the internet). That worked perfectly. The HK player plays both OK, but doesn't seem to like disks with a label on them.

I hate digital recording. I have more problems with it then I ever did with analog. I refuse to record mp3 disks.

I like my one hour format best.

Interesting, I use both without any problems 74 & 80 min. I print my own labels on the disk with a disk printer. I had a label come off in a player & ruin it, so never again. Also just a Sharpie works fine.
I also have an Ipad with bunches on it, but then I have more crap out on the bike. It does fine tho. Another option is if you have a GPS that does MP3's, you can run both out of one piece at the same time.

Or use your nifty mobile phone while plugged into the auxiliary port on the front of the radio and play your tunes.

I run my GPS application on my phone which allows me to navigate and listen to my favorite music at the same time. The nav interrupts the music as needed to give directions. All running through the HD radio and into our intercom headsets.

That is my style too. Got to make life easy.

Long time computer user and disc burner. Not all discs will work in any given player or to put it another way not every player will play all discs. Also I have found that burning discs at the slowest speeds usually means they last longer and are more apt to be readable in the player. I have also found that frequently the lesser expensive blanks were the ones that worked best for me.

It depends on the year of your Harley. My 2003 played CD's but not MP3's. However, my 2007 Ultra does pay MP3's and I can insert one disc and play 200 songs. I think your bike does not have the capability to play MP3.

Sloufoot, my 03 wouldn't play the 80's, but my 2012 TG plays both fine.

I agree with the burning at a slower speed, Shapie instead of label, anyone want to buy a few hundred lables? .

gadgetz, My Garmin 660 plays mp3's and cuts in with directions thru the radio also.

Cell phone on a bike is a real no-no for me. Mine stays in the trunk at all times - emergency use only.

thanks everyone for all the tips and suggestions. I think the problem is solved. We just installed a Garmin 665, and with a micro-SD card, the MP3s play fine, we get album art, and the navigation cuts into the music for directions.
