Default more leg room than a wing

Hi again everyone, I've had my goldwing 1500 trike for a few months now and I've got around 3000 miles on it. My biggest complaint is legroom. I can't ride for more than 60-80 miles without legs cramping and etc. When I do have my legs stretched out, I feel like I'm doing a spread eagle. <br />
My question is, does a Valkyrie offer any more leg room? I have never owned or ridden one, so I do not have a clue. <img src="images/smilies/shrug.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Shrug" class="inlineimg" />

Have you looked into "<a href="http://www.ridingiswonderful.com/" target="_blank"><b><font color="Red">Mick-O-Pegs</font></b></a>"? I think their terrific on my 1500, but a friend didn't care for them on his 1800 (the principal is the same, but style/fitting slightly different). On a two wheeler, <u>when in use</u>, they can scrape the pavement when "banking" in curves, but that is obviously not a factor with a trike. I find them great for keeping your leg stretched out. Like many accessories, you either "love 'em or hate 'em". Heel toe shifters, for example, make me crazy, but many folks love 'em. <img src="images/smilies/shrug.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Shrug" class="inlineimg" />

Ya know 87Trike1200, I might just give those a try. I'm getting so fed up with the setup I have and the cramps I get, I'll try just about anything, let lone sell the darn thing and try something else. I know there really isn't alot of difference, between the Valk and Wing, but there is some. <br />
    I'm so depressed....<img src="images/smilies/depressed.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Depressed" class="inlineimg" />

Aqua shields (running boards, floor boards) help a lot. I put them on my 1500 and have them on my 1800. Love the fact that you can put your feet in just about any position you want. Plus they look darn good and keep the water from the road off your feet.

icedad - another thing I did was to get a seat pad like <a href="http://www.amspecialtiesusa.com/gelpad.htm" target="_blank"><b><font color="Red">THIS</font></b></a>. Not so much for the pad itself, but it raised my seating position about 1 1/2 inches which also slightly changes your leg position. I got the "humungo" Ortho-Deluxe model - they're all about $20 off right now.<br />
    <br />
Getting back to the Mick-O-Pegs, read the fine print. I think they used to have a deal where, after you mount and try them, If your not satisfied they will take them back as long as they're like new and not scratched up.<br />

I've switched bikes a couple of times, but the pad goes with me. my back end doesn't sweat when it's 97 and doesn't freeze when it's 28 thanks to that sheepskin cover. And the thickness was just enough to make the bend at the knees comfortable.

Same here. By putting my feed on the running boards I'm in about the same position that I am on the Harley.<br />

I had the running boards covered with the bed liner so I didn't have to worry about scratching them.

A good set of well adjusted highway pegs makes a huge difference, at least for me it does. The 2012 rental Wing I road for about 500 miles proved to me the stock ergonomics left something to be desired. When I took delivery of my new 2012 Wing I installed the Kury PN # 4056 Ergo II with Dually ISO-Pegs plus a set of their running boards. Made things a lot more comfortable for me 29" inseam, the only stinker is the stock seat is murder. I shipped it out to Daylong and hope to get chance to try it out if the weather ever gives me a break.

SeaBill, I have thought about those running boards (Aqua Shields), but i hesitate because of the few negative things I've heard about them. But, comfort I guess will outweigh the negatives.

What negatives? I am on my second Goldwing Motortrike with aqua shields and the only negative I see is a little more to clean and polish but other than that they are wonderful.

I have a 99 Valkyrie Standard and was going to trike it but got the 2010 Wing instead.

Even as a 2 wheeler the 1500s lack a bit leg of room.
Im 5 10 and feel cramped as all get out on it.
Triked it cant be much better.

Not much difference from my Valk trike or bike and the 1500 'Wing, that I could tell. I ended up going with the Ultimate King seat for the additional height & farther back seating. I like it so well, I switch it back & forth between rides.

Thank you 87Trike1200 for the link to the Comfort-Max Gel pads. I have been looking for these but a similair product in Canada would cost me $415.00.
I ordered and received the Ortho-Deluxe Jumbo's and they are great.

Exclamation Re: more leg room than a wing

I'm having a similar issue with my current trike and I also had a Valkyrie with a MotorTrike conversion which was no different regarding the leg room. But my problems are with my hips.

As as an example. Yesterday on my way home from work with the trike, both of my hips began to lock up. Talk about pain! Now mind you,, I only work 15 minutes away. Luckily, I was at a turn off and I was able to stand up as the trike was still moving which usually alleviates the pain. I did a little experimenting after I was home with the Air Hawk cushion I use on top of a Hartco Pro-Tour seat. Instead of having a small amount of air in it as instructed, I filled it up as much as possible to try and increase the height of my sitting position. Trying to sit without the fully inflated Air Hawk and then standing and putting the fully inflated Air Hawk on the seat, I felt some relief in my hips. Now I'm going to go one step further in the hopes that I'll be able to defeat this hip issue. I'm going to order one of the gel seat cushions and place that under the Air Hawk which will raise me even more. Hopefully, between the gel cushion, the fully inflated Air Hawk and my Comfort controls, I just might be able to get stretched out enough that my hips won't spasm. I was also wondering about the Ultimate King seat, but after spending a small fortune on the Hartco, I'll try the additional gel pad first. We'll see,,,.

    (It really sucks getting old)

    Icedad,

I had exactly the same problems with my GL1800. After 150 miles I as in agony.

I spent a lot of time and money until I found a solution. I had Russel make one of their Daylong seats that moved me back as much as possible and up about an inch. I lowered the main pegs. I installed spacers to move the grips to a better position. I installed mic-o pegs because I could not use any of the others.

After all that I completed two Iron Butt rides and put over 40,000 miles on that bike.

Yes, you are right about peg dragging not being an issue on your trike.

After all that I completed two Iron Butt rides and put over 40,000 miles on that bike.

Yes, you are right about peg dragging not being an issue on your trike.
That's what I'm thinking about regarding the Ultimate 'King' seat. I just ordered the Ortho-Deluxe gel set pad from American Motorcycle Specialties to use under my Air Hawk pad to see it that will raise me up enough to alleviate the hip pain. But that won't move me back. We'll see how this works out first as it will be a much more affordable solution.

Cowhide covers over in the San Antonio Texas area use to have some great seat cushions. I picked up 2. 1 for me and the other for the passanger. Double stuffed mine and it made a massive amount of diff and it breaths as well so no wet back side.

I ordered and received the Ortho-Deluxe Jumbo's and they are great.

Everybody has there opinion on leg room. After riding several trikes and being cramped up (im 6-1) on every one I decided to add a trike kit to my Honda VTX 1800. I would not change a thing on mine to improve the leg room. Just my 2 cents. My opinion and a dollar gets you a cup of coffee at Macdonalds. LOL
