I would like to know if my speedometer is off since I triked my 1800 gold wing? It seems to be !! Thanks!! It is a Champion with the Toyota rear end!!!

A stopwatch and the mile markers on the road will tell you the truth, or at least close enough. Put it on 60 mph and keep it there for 5 miles or so and see how many minutes and seconds click off, should be one minute per mile.

Per GPS, my CSC registers 2 mph under at 70 mph.
The only problem with a 500 mile day is what to do with the rest of the afternoon[/COLOR].
The 1800 gets its speed from the transmittion , the 1500 from the front wheel. I put a larger tire on 1500 and checking it with GPS it is off by 1 MPH. I am guessing yours is maybe off by 5MPH. Most of the speedometers on the wing are that far off 2 or 3 wheel.. If you up the diameter of the rear tires you can correct it. I do not think any installer has the tools or can re calibrate the speedometer. You may be off by 5 MPH. But having everyone pass you is just people speeding. On the roads around here ,posted limit is 65.. Average speed is 75 or 80.
When I am gona fix something I will fix it. You don't have to bug me every 6 months.

check it with a GPS.
I've suffered a great many catastrophes in my life....
most of them never happened.;)
My 2010 wing's speedometer was right on, a big improvement from my 2003 that was 4 mph off. After triking with Champion, Nisson rear end I'm told, it is still right on within 1/2 mph according to a portable GPS.

Not sure if I have free time or I just forgot everything I was suppose to do.
Retired and highly recommend it.
Just have someone with a smart phone download a free speedometer app and check it.
My 1800 with 2011 Roadsmith reads 3 mph slow at 60 mph according to two GPS units. YMMV. Best bet is to ride along with someone with GPS and track over straight road for a few seconds. If you cannot do that then the distance/time measurement is your best alternative.
More than likely a call to mfg. would give you close answer if tires are same as originally installed
Thanks to all that responded ! I built it myself so did nothing to the speedometer. Five miles under is just what it seems like to me so I will test and see! Thanks, Stoner!!!
I have a 2006 GL1800 converted to a "WingSmith". I checked the speed with a GPS both before and after triking. Each time (and there were several) the speedo was optimistic by 3 mph. (a reading of 40 was GPS 37; a reading of 70 was GPS 67.) For my bike it didn't seem to matter what the speed range was - it was still a 3 mph difference.
For me - I have translated that into a safety factor: I simply set my cruise control on the posted limit and never have to worry about a speeding ticket. Which is why I was wondering about the blue light behind me immediately after I crossed the TN border from KY.
I had forgotten to put on my helmet.

My 06 Champion with Toyota rear end (dealer built brand new in 06) is 2 miles off according to my Garmin GPS.
70 is 68.
