Thanks for contacting the rest of this on this thread Jamie.
I guess i post on it quite often, hoping that others will do the same.
It's great to hear from others that have found a way to live life on lifes terms.

There are some incredibly strong willed folks who frequent this forum. I am very glad you shared your story with us and i salute you for enduring pain and yet keep riding.
Pain management specialists are a blessing as long as we keep them in their proper perspective?
I just sent you a friends request to make it easier to keep in contact.
If we were horses they would shoot us?
On this thread we don't shoot our wounded, we only encourage each other so the pain doesn't shut out the sunlight when we cry!

Band Aid brand may not go bankrupt just yet?
I am in the process of giving my old trailer a makeover. I have every intention of heading over to Montana next month to Glacier Park.
I want to run the highway to the sun again. It has been over 20 yrs. since i last did it, And it's on my bucket list.
The friend that said he wanted to go is hedging a little now, but i don't mind being alone!
Make sure you keep us posted on your rides and include some photos?

    All the best to you:
    Paul

Good addition, Zook. Certainly provides an outlet for those challenged to ride and how cool it is. Good read.

Zook great new forum!! The saying, "It takes one, to know one" is very appropriate with this subject!
Paul just got on and immediately ok'd your request. It is really nice to get a friend request!
It's amazing what we do to keep riding. Today I'm paying for yesterday but it was well worth it and an honor (Rode up to Prescott to Stand the Flag line for the families of our fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots)!! Hope everyone stays safe in the wind!

I guess there is no accounting for phantom pain.
It's just weird stuff to live with!

What kind of trike are you riding and what have you done to it to accommodate your handicap?

Post some pictures and do a little bragging!

I just finished giving my old trailer an overhaul and face lift.
I went ahead and rewired with all new wiring and new tires and painted to match the trike.
I have had the trailer for 31 years and it was really in need of some attention!

Paul, it looks like you have given that old trailer a new lease on life.
Just like some of us old pharts, with a little help , we are good to go
    several more miles.

I wish i could knock a few years off myself that way?

Its nuts when your trike is the most attractive feature about yourself!
Maybe i could paint it John Deer green and attract some redneck chicks?
The wife would probably just laugh at my antics? ( no fool like an old fool?)
    Hah-Hah!
It's fun gettin old, You can build a trike and make all the young bucks jealous anyhow!

I am havin fun with this trike! And i can play with it every day. So eat your heart out young bucks!

    pepper Hi All

Thank you for starting this thread. My husband introduced me to motorcycle travel 7 years ago and I'm addicted! I started to get my motorcycle licence (we have a 3 stage licencing process in Ontario) but I had to let it lapse when I suffered a spinal cord injury a year and a half ago. Recovery is going well but I still don't have full feeling in my lower body (I can walk but I wobble without alcohol lol). I've decided to get myself a trike - life's too short let your passions pass you by! I will be converting a HD Ultra but I'm not sure what brand to go with. I like the thought of the independent suspension (and the look of) the Daytona from California Sidecar, but I'm wondering what is "safer" - the CSC independent suspension or the rigid swing-arm of Lehman's Renegade? As a new rider, both will probably be "equal" in learning curve, but I'm thinking that the least amount of jarring of my spine would be best. We typically do not ride interstates when we travel - mostly secondary highways and country roads. Can anyone help give me some guidance on the direction I should be looking?http://www.triketalk.com/forum/image...de_banana7.gif

    Welcome Hunnee:

I am not familiar with either the csc or the leman rigid swing arm.
I am sure there are others that will give you better insight in that respect.

I have a straight axle on the 1989 Harley ultra i converted.
I'm just thinking that with your back problems, anything with the word rigid in it brings back my misspent youth with rigid frame choppers and i would be real leary?
    Just sayin?

I don't have a problem with the ride on my champion conversion but any trike will be a little rough in town and be a whole different critter on the road.
I believe an independant suspension would be better for you in that respect.
The independent suspensions i have ridden don't seem to have as much tendency to feel like you are overcoming G forces in a turn which may cause you less back strain?

One thing i will tell you is that you should get with Bazooka, (forum administrator) to discuss how much you should rake the front end for ease of steering. Steering will affect your back and a hard to steer or wobbly front end end is no fun at all!
Also he sells a nice rake kit to forum members at about half the cost that others will charge.
I can vouch for its quality as i installed it on my conversion.

    A word of caution?
I did my own build and so was able to control quality,Your trike is only as good as the person that builds it.
Don't settle for the first one that comes along without really outstanding references.

Also thats a question you can throw out to forum members for a "TRIKE" mechanic in your area?

Welcome, Hunnee! I chose a CSC conversion based on the installer, which was my local HD dealer. I had done business with them for over 25 years and trusted them (I still do, too!) to do a good job. I'm really pleased with the result, and I think you would be happy with any of the major conversions. I think the IRS would be a better option for you, in light of your physical situation. Good luck with your search, and ask questions!

Fantastic to finally see a forum that contains a section for the challenged triker! I have been designing wheelchair accessible trikes for the brotherhood that are confined to wheelchairs for life and still want to feel the wind in there hair. I had to retire several years ago when it became to difficult to travel. But i will still help anyone who wishes to get back on the road again in any way I can. just give me a call or shoot me an email and we somehow get together.
this is an excellent forum and this section is now my favorite! Keep up the great work!!

the difference between a good trike and a bad one depends entirely on the integrity of it's builder!

Glacier Park Montana, Here I come!

As folks make Sturgis their destination next week, I am heading the other way from Wyoming into Northern Montana.
I've been to Sturgis plenty of times.
The whole purpose of going was to try and hit a new low every year and i can no longer do that. I doubt they will even miss me standing on the corner wearing jeans and a black T-shirt?

I Ran the Highway to the sun 24 yrs ago when my tour Glide was new and i always wanted to go back. Now, it has been on my bucket list since i got sick.

I haven't decided whether or not i will cross over into Canada?
I seen relatives there last April.

This time i am taking my old Glide back as a trike!
I have had friends say they wanted to go but they have all backed out, and a dear friend that was still going with me can now only attend in spirit?
    So, i am going alone!

I am planning to camp as much as possible but will have to land somewhere where i can have access to electricity every now again to charge the batteries on my oxygen machine.
I am planning to pack my fly rod even though its tough to stand in the water and fish now.

It seems lately my breathing has been getting a might harder but my heart seems to be working well enough!

I have to wait until after tuesday because i need to attend the funeral of my good friend and riding buddy jim, who passed on two days ago of the same insidious thing thats trying to get me.
I guess this will be a memorial trip for jim as well. I sure wish he were going with me, but i guess God has another road for him to ride now?

Jim didn't get to complete his bucket list of rides so i guess it's up to me now?

So if you see some worn out old cowboy on a Black Harley tour Glide trike and pulling a small Black trailer behind running through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Canada, with the spirit of an old friend and his trike beside me?
    honk and wave ok?
