A few years ago I camped at the St. Mary campground. The vistas were amazing. I even hiked the Iceberg Lake Trail. I'd like to go back but my next camping adventure is going to be Crater Lake National Park.

Parkinson's Disease. Going on 15 yrs. since diagnosed and never been happier. I may not be able to do what I used to at the speed I used to. My Trike has given me the freedom I crave. I have put more miles on in 3 months with the Trike than I had in the last three years with my Nightster. Just my two cents worth.

I just read this from start to finish. I really enjoyed reading everyone's stories. And that build by pcombe was cool to see. Enjoyed the photos immensely! My own situation isn't as serious as what many of you are dealing with. I wrecked my 2-wheeler in 1979 broke femur and got a rebuilt hip. Had that hip totally reworked in March-2014 and it failed, pulled away from pelvis. So, had that same hip totally redone in September, this latest one has a half-dozen screws, straps and probably some JBWeld for extra hold. I told the (new)doc that this one better stay put. Anyway, I'm getting close to riding condition again. I'm hoping this last set of tie rods and ball joints get me thru this life! I'd really rather not do this again. LOL Again, really enjoyed this read. You guys are inspiring and I'm so glad to see y'all riding. Miles and smiles to you all.

The JB weld should be just the ticket my friend.

There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are no old, bold bikers so get your wheels under you, Challenge the status quo who say you can't and set out to prove em wrong.

It may hurt for a bit but you will find ways to make it bearable until old muscles and joints adapt, just like any activity start slow and build up to your particular comfort, It's not a race.
It took me time and I have to start anew every spring but I can run 600 mile days when im pressed. I usually try to keep it to about 450. Im retired so I don't really have to be anywhere.

There is a learning curve when you start with a trike it's a different animal, there are technics that will reduce fatigue and you can ask folks here for tips.
My old Tour Glide ultra just turned 26 yrs. old and I still love it!

I'm shopping for a bike atm but I want a bike that still leans etc without letting me fall off or requires me to put feet down.

I started out about 7 years ago with Fibromyalgia, Myofascial pain syndrome, most of the whole spectrum disorder syndrome as it is otherwise known and Chronic Fatigue, took me 3 years to get back out of bed. Then a couple of years ago got diagnosed with Polyarthralgia which is just a fancy way of literally saying "many" so I have Rheumatoid, Osteo and the kicker was advanced enthesopathy as well. All the while trying to balance meds and lifestyle and had my first surgerylast year, fusing C5-C7 with disc replacements etc.

So yeah I want no lateral forces so I want a multiwheel bike of any kind that I can register that leans that isn't a scooter because I have a certain amount of expectation of riding.

Ive searched the site here but I didn't find anything with the search engine, I dont seem to have any luck with them on any forum- lol.

If anyone knows of something let me know but I am out there actively looking and speaking to companies now.

I have got special dispensation from my state roads authority to build a Quadricycle of the road qoing kind rather than an ag or sports on with road tyres after all 4 wheels do balance better than 3. For buying there are a few other companies that have leaning bikes, but only the scooters seem to have the longevity the others are one model "fly by nighters" who disappear after 6 months operation.

I have found Tilting works and Tremoto who both have been at it for a while and although not hugely successful in sales yet are dedicated guys who have been at it for years. So I guess they will remain in my box for the moment and I'll take any advice the board can give me.

    Cheers all

    Gavin,

Take a look at a reverse trike made by an outfit named "DiamondBack Division".

    Don Davis

    DiamondBackDivision.com

    Also on FaceBook

    513-633-6929 (US)

They make a leaning reverse trike using pretty much any motorcycle.drive train you want.

Okay ... I'll admit it ... reading this thread has restored my faith in human survival ...

I was diagnosed with "aggressive glaucoma" in 01 ... I was told I'd be blind in a mater of years ... Dr. was wrong (go figure) ... I bought a new 01 gold wing .. figured I'd get a year or two of riding in ... turned out to be excessively tough cornea's ... like 5 times the norm which made eye pressures go wacky

Then it was hearing loss and going deaf ... enter hearing aides ...

I've had nine knee operations, two achillie (-5sp) tendon surgeries and much more .. in Sept 14 I was on a ride that was in the low 40's for 2 1/2 hours, when we stopped for gas, I couldn't hold up the Ultra, I was lucky ... my buddy was right behind me and saw me going down and caught me. The next week I test rode a tri ... hated it and figured my riding days were over ... I mean tough to ride, when you don't know when you'll not be able to hold up the bike ... found this forum and hd forums and read about trikes .. decided to buy one even though I hated it ... and now I love it

My grand father would say I'm taking the long way around the block, but what I'm trying to say is my physical issues are minor to most here ... you guys inspire the heck out of me ... I know that's not why you do it ... you do it cause you have no choice ... but I just wanted to say Thanks for being you and sharing your stories.

    Default My story

In '78 I have was taken off my bike head on by a drunk driver. Other than a totaled bike, I considered myself lucky as per the police report, I landed 150 ft from my bike. I sustained a fractured ankle, solid bruise on entire left side of my body and an amputeted left arm.
I have always wanted to get back on but knew I couldn't fix normally. With more and more trike showing up, I started looking at riding again.
I have found what looks like the frame from a racing sidecar from the nineties with the car attached. Would be a project but original as. Will post if I can get it.

Not to rain on your parade Teskimo, but riding a sidehack requires greater upper body (arm) strength than a properly set up trike.
I'm a T6 paraplegic & own both however my sidehack has basically sat the past two summers as the trike is much easier for me to physically ride/enjoy, safely.
Perhaps there are others that you can seek out down under that might let you try both.

It sounds like you have the desire to ride again, & as long as you keep that fire going inside, you can overcome obstacles & get back to doing what you enjoy.
    Best of luck to you...

    Great link vw driver.
I hope it gets read by a lot of folks that are interested in continuing riding after their injury. There are many sources for adaptive accessories, as well as complete bike remodeling shops to choose from.
I will pass it along to my contacts as well...
