    Default Seats for 1500

Wondering what's the best, most sensible way to approach the seat situation on our trike. I think it's got the stock seat on now, cloth top and vinyl sides. Doesn't feel like it'd be too comfy on the road. As I'm still in recovery mode I don't have much chance to test it out, although on the test ride I thought the pass. seat left lots to be desired.
I'm sure aftermarket products are pricey for these bikes. Is rebuilding on the stock pan a thing that's done to any degree?
What are the more popular brand seats?

    Thanks, Bob

I got a stock seat that is in decent condition. It had been overstuffed with more foam, but I removed the extra foam, and it looked pretty good. Also got the backrest that has the tubes that go to the seat bolts. Also in good shape. All yours for $50.00+ shipping! I'll even redo the staples that are loose. jimsjinx

Thanks for the offer Jim. I haven't had the chance to ride with what I have yet so it's a little early to start moving on anything. I'm just being curious up to this point. Will keep it in mind if I need something like that.
I go in for another surgery on my arm on Tuesday, getting closer to full movement all the time! Hope you're out enjoying the weather!

Sounds like you already have an aftermarket seat, as Triker Mike pointed out the Honda OEM seats were all vinyl and are usually quite soft. As the original seat goes through time and miles, the foam breaks down.
The maker may have put a sticker, stamp or etching on the bottom side of the seat pad. Might be worth pulling the grab handles and taking off the seat to take a look.
We had a Corbin Masters saddle when we got the trike, Gloria hated it even though she was sitting on $1000 worth of leather, foam and fiberglass. We rode on a stock seat for a while, now on a Diamond.
The Corbin is for sale (haven't advertised it yet) as is the OEM seat (without the backrest - some aftermarket seats re-use the OEM passenger backrest and have a cover to match the seat)
Aftermarket seats can be very expensive, but, IMHO worth it if you rack up any serious miles.
Then there are other choices, such as sheepskin, aqua pads, air pads, gel pads, foam pads, wooden bead pads and any number of seat covers and seat re-builders.

Could you elucidate that point a little more finely for me...I'm likely to just grab it yank it right off the bike!! Where are the grab handles? Haven't any idea how the seat's supposed to come off. If it won't go, get a bigger hammer! Hold me back!!!

On each side of the passangers seat there are handels each is held in place by two allen head bolts. After you take all 4 (two on each side) give the handels a tug straight out . When they are off then go to the back of the pass. seat and lift straight up when the seat clears the trunk pull back to the rear & the seat should come right out. When putting it back on pay attention to the front lip that goes under the tank.

You won't find the Allen screw until you remove the 4 plugs. Note also they are different lengths. Also there are spacers between the seat and the frame don't loose them if they fall out.

There are plugs? I saw these in the manual, but I've not seen them in real life.

Speaking of the manual, getting the factory manual is a very good investment. I like having a paper copy, but here is a great on-line resource for manuals. This is in my favorites list. http://www.goldwingdocs.com/index.asp

Another site I like is here:
1994 Honda OEM Parts, 1994 Honda OEM Motorcycle Parts - BikeBandit.com

I have the link set up for you to get to the 1994 Goldwing page, just click on your model - Interstate or Aspencade/SE - and it will show you exploded views of all the parts on a 'Wing (but not the trike kit).
Very neat to have access to, this also has a link to both the trike and my Harley in my favorites.

Well I tore that puppy right offa there and sure enough there was a sticker under there!
It's an Air Riders seat! That's a good brand name in the trucking industry so guess I'll ride with it for some time and let my parts tell the tale. I noticed somewhere someone mentioned 'scotchguard' treatment for the cloth tops. Sounds sensible.
Guess I'm happy seat wise for the presnt time. Thanks to you all.
Once again I've learned some useful stuff! All is well.

The time I've spent in the garage in the saddle going BBBlllllttttttmmmm all over the place makes me think it may be OK. With my sheepskin on top I'm sure it'll be good.
