Oil filter leaking on tri glide

I have changed the oil on my tri glide 09, in the last three oil changes I have had oil leaking after about 300 miles or so these rides have been in a day long ride. The last ride 2 weeks ago to Ohio about 470 miles in a day got up there and oil was leaking again any help.:Shrug:
 
I have an 09 Triglide also. It has leaked oil one place or another every since I bought it. I have been to the shop with it so many times it aint funny. Its either the oil filter, the oil cooler, the o-rings on the magnetic plugs and it also leaks out the air filter if I don't leave it half a Quart low.
It leaked the other day, went on a 150 mile ride. Was supposed to take to the shop the next day, got up in the morning it was leaking. Cancelled the appointment.
Don't know what else to tell you. :gah:
 
There is a gasket on the oil filter mounting plate (the plate the filter mounts too)
check the hose fittings etc also..
 
Thanks trikermutha, forgot about the gasket on the mounting plate.

I just took mine off and installed a ultra cool oil cooler ..So thats how I remember the gasket.. Have you had you stator plug leak yet..That one is kinda hard to locate since it blows all over the bottom of the bike..
 
Yes that was another leak also. Like to never found that one. Keep naming them trikermutha your doing great. Americanbadass is right on the clamps also. ThumbUp
 
The oil cooler adapter on my dads 09 warped and needed replace. I tried a fresh gasket and torqued it, the sucker started leaking a few hundred miles later. He bought a new adapter and its been good for a couple years.

Just wondering with all the suggestions have you located the leak yet???
 
use injector hose clamps on the hoses. they are a circle clamp with a screw & nut to tighten them. even new spring clamps leak after a while .
they are in the fuel filter area at the parts store (autozone) about 50 cents each. also use NAPA hi-tack sealant on the fittings
(never RTV) because it balls up as you slide the hose over the fitting.

Good advice and per Marv at Jagg, tighten the adaptor in a criss cross pattern every time the filter is off.
 
I like to snug the bolts first then torque in a star seqence..And use blue lock tite on the threads..once tightened up drive warm up the bike and then wait till it cools off. They recheck the tighness..You really should not have to do it again after that..
