A$&$hole Decided it would be fun to play bumper cars.

So I'm a little bit late in getting this on the boards but two weeks ago tomorrow some ******* in a Honda Civic decided that even though I was in the right lane turning right from one street to another and was waiting for traffic to clear he wanted my space in the road and decided to rear end my trike. He pushed me about 15 feet into the intersection, thank God there was no traffic at that point.

Lucky for me he did pull off into the Circle K convenience store parking lot with me and I demanded to see his drivers license, insurance, and that then asked him for his phone. He is a guy from Iran and asked me why I needed his phone and I acted like I just need to call the police or something. He handed me his phone and I immediately discovered that he was texting at the intersection instead of paying attention to what he should be doing which was driving. Because I was holding the clutch in naturally my left arm was sprained (If anybody has ever had tennis elbow, that's what this feels like. It is only painful when I gripped something or try to list something a certain way but it has interfered with my exercise schedule) and he did about thousand dollars of damage to my trike. I will say that my bumper did exactly what it was supposed to and held up perfectly. The damages to the fiberglass where the bumper is attached to this trike body which is dented and I have to have it all pulled out. Luckily for me (especially in Arizona were so many people are not insured), he has good insurance. I will let you guys know things as they happen. My trike is going on Monday to have it fixed, three days without it is going to suck.

Glad you had a bumper and it took the brunt of the damage.Glad the only thing was hurt was your trike, except for your arm. Texting and driving just doesn't work.

It is not safe out there anymore, especially in the 5:00 traffic. I had some a$$hole just today that changed lanes right in front of me on the freeway today at 65 MPH. Had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the SOB! He was texting- man I wanted to beat his candy a$$!!!

How about someone deciding at the last minute while at a stop light making a left turn decide to turn right while I was driving next to him in the right lane.

Had to stand on my brakes and braced myself for the worse while trying not to hit the SOB. Lucky enough only had damage to my left fender..I even had to fill out the police report because the SOB would not come with me ..

Yea I hear you all texting and yapping on the cell phones need to outlawed while driving..

Glad you're mostly alright Dave. hopefully the cops wrote he was texting in report. And it's a Honda civic. Are you sure you didn't do more damage to it than he did to you?

dave, i'm so sorry about your accident, but glad you are ok. wasn't able to work out a hook up in arizona - my whole bike pick up thing was like the thelma and louise movie (lots of good times, but some bad luck here and there and some bad decisions). we got to the dealership bright and early @9am --btw sparky says "hi" from bike week. but this and that and this and that and didn't leave the dealer until 2pm and had to get to yuma that night. would have loved to have seen your bike (well, before the accident......) take care, michele

It's a damn shame to hear all of these close calls and accidents due to idiot drivers! When on your trike, you have to have a mind set that you're at War with an enemy that wears no uniform for easy identification. Always be on the defensive!! I regard every car or truck as a potential threat!

Glad your OK.. The wife and I had that same thing happend last week , I saw in my mirror that this kid was looking at somthing and the car in front of me stopped for a turn and this kid looked up and saw my Back-Off Lights flashing and slammed on his brakes just in time. I didnt even have time to move out of the way. but those flashing rear brakes I think really helped THIS time. he came with in about 1 foot of the rear of the Trike.

Good Post! in my younger days a boot through the drivers door worked. I still carry a bag full of 1/2" ball bearings in my vest pocket for such idiots. One day a guy in a Cadillac almost took my wife out on an expressway entrance. He got both the boot and the bearings. That was back in 73 on my FXLE with an S&S 88" kit and Sifton 468 cams. Just a downshift and he was done.

There is a simple test to get your "texting & driving stamp" on your license... if you can mow a straight line on a riding mower and pump out a text message, you're safe.

If your mowing line is crooked, you fail.

Try it, I know it works b/c I did it.

For drivers that want to drive very close to you from behind I've found a few marbles bouncing off their windshields usually changes their minds somewhat.

Someday maybe congress will get serious abut laws against cell phones, texting and eating while driving. It's already been proven texting is worse than driving legally drunk. Thousands and thousands of deaths per year attributed to it. If only lawmakers worried about your chances of dying on the road as much as they do about us owning guns!
BTW, throwing marbles and ball bearings at drivers windows is just as lethal. if I was a cop and saw that your ass would be mine! Who knows where a stray steel ball could wind up and what scenerio you are creating.

Man it really smokes my bacon to hear this. In the old days I would have used the guy's cell phone to administer an ameture rectal exam. Now a days age and the culmination of too many years of abusing my body would dictate going the insurance route. Funny how the years have a civilizing effect.

Big thing you're o.k. And the trike is repairable. Wait a minute. You said the guy had good insurance? Maybe it's time to see a doctor about those sharp back and neck pains you're starting to experiencing.
