So the trade/deal was 'If you wanted the bag you carried the extra battery till i needed it.... [They were like a brick and heavy] Once i needed it i would bayonet the old battery and give the bag to the mule who carried the new battery .....

After four weeks basic training and four weeks AIT at fort Ord California I was shipped to Vietnam (Cam Ranh bay, 67 to 68) 87th engineers, I worked everyday in that red dust and humidity, and 30 years later I was told my leukemia was from agent orange ( O well) Yes I served. Stay well and keep riding. Paul

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

BOB, you woke up an old memory for me. I think I must have served a year or two after you did. I was a MOS 2531, Field Radio Operator. In 1966-1967 we were transitioning from the Prick 10 to the Prick 25. We did use both but preferred the 25. My memory is dim but I believe the 25 was a little larger physically but was lighter and had a better range. As the "other" BOB said, "Thanks for the memories"..... Jim

    And..... Merry Christmas to all

Didn't go through the "HELL" some of you did but it was plenty exciting for this poor farm boy.

I've been to THE WALL in DC a couple times. Eyes get blurry there...

    Stay safe my Brothers......
Small world sometimes! My father was at Phan Rang 69/70, I was there 70/71 and younger brother went to DaNang 71/72. First time I've looked at this particular part of TrikeTalk as I don't really like reliving those days! 100% DV since 2008. Stay safe and enjoy the ride. Tomg

    Default Vietnam 1970 / 71

I went in at Cam Ron Bay . I was assigned to the 223rd S&S Company in Dian . My M.O.S.is 64C30 .I was there for 8 months. First time the U S used a computer to put an Operation together my name comes up. No one know where I am going. Rebuild a keep and load a C-130 in long Bing. Landed in Damage air port. Got in a convoy and went up a mountain. Once we got there someone on a bull horn said Welcome to Khe Sanh .Sixty days there in charge of a fuel depot .

    Draft number 48 …….

51 years ago today, me and the gf had it out, so instead of waiting to get drafted, I signed up for the US Army.

Her and I never married, but we are still friends, after all these years.

Today is not a day of celebration, but a day of remembrance for me.

To my Brothers and Sisters, I will never forget.
Texas; 254 counties and I have ridden through them all! Got my pin from my Congress Lady congratulating me on completing my journey.

Default First a Grunt, then a Bluebell

Joined July 1962. Reservist (known as CMF - Citizens' Military Forces) then ARA (Australian Regular Army). Grunt until 1965. Got tired of all the foxhole digging, walking and nights in the donga. Tranferred to RAEME (Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) - callsign Bluebell, and off to flying school to learn about choppers as an airframe fitter. I was a grunt at heart, so when the Grey 8 (Eighth Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment) were looking for an Armourer on their return from Malaya before their first tour of Viet-Nam, I transferred. In country October, '69. My mate got whacked in Dec, '69 and I've never got over that. Stayed in country when 8RAR went home (RTA) and did a lot of time in Vungers (Vung Tau), Saigon, Hue, Hua Long and other interesting shell pocketed locations with EIS Team doing inspections and such like stuff. 1971 returned to an Australia I was ashamed to call home. Medics threw me into a psych ward for tests and observation and in 1972 kicked me out of the military as I was; "No longer suited to be a Soldier." Few years ago, was awarded some damn medal and a Citation for my service. I threw them away. Got full TPI (Totally and Permanently Disabled) Special Rate Payment and full medical, but I question why I'm still here and bein' a grumpy ol' Vet. I guess my story is yet to be told I reckon.

Your not alone Phill, The draft ruined our generation, some mentality and some physically. It’s a constant haunting issue .
