I'm looking to change the exhaust pipes on my gl1800 from stock to something with a little deeper sound. I'm not looking for the no muffler Harley sound, just a more throater sound. Any ideas?

The only exhaust replacement system I've heard excellent reviews about is the Vance & Hines. They definitely have a nice sound to them. I was even thinking about looking into this at some point in the future. We'll see,,,.
Here's a link to a set in WingStuff. They have a video so you can hear what they sound like;

A guy I know use to have a GL1800 with Cobra pipes. Here is a u-Tube link to a sound bite...

I'm like an old race horse..... I can still run the race -- Just ache more at the finish line and need more rest between outings.
I just modified my existing mufflers and personall like the deeper and throatier tone. If you do a search on "exhaust modification" you should find quite a few posts on this mod. Sure beats 800$ for some of the other systems and is reverseable if you dont like it.

It will never sound like a Harley, and why in the world would someone want to. The CSC kit comes with some neat sounding mufflers that I was please with when I got it.
I have straight pipes put on when triked and it sounds very nice. Similar to a small airplane engine. No expensive modifications, just straight stainless steel pipe. Not loud just nice and mellow sound.

Dyno show no improvement with muffler change on a Godwing. If any thing it will rob you of power.
When I am gona fix something I will fix it. You don't have to bug me every 6 months.

Gold Rush, nice video. I had the Cobra exhaust on my 1800 trike. I was very satisfied and after a few thousand miles on the exhaust it starts to get a little different "personality" and has a nice "back rab" sound when down shifting etc.

I recently had my exhaust changed over on my '08 1800 Motor Trike to Torque Loops and V&H Monster mufflers. I really like the sound. Nice and mellow just tooling around but it roars if you really get on it. People say it sounds like a hot sports car.
I do not; but if you remove the chrome tips and bore a 1/2" hole above the exit pipe, it is easily plugged with a freeze plug and a dab of J & B. I am going to drill a second hole, each side, for a bit more sound. Seems like there may have been some U tube sound bits on another thread here or one of the other populat 1800 forums. I would discribe the sound as a sports car.
To respond to the loss of power post, I have read of dyno tests that showed no relevent loss or gain of power. I certainly dont detect a change in that department, But I sure like the sound improvement...especially knowing that it is reversable if I sell or desire.

torque master pipes with torque loopz great sound and performance sounds like a ferrari
I went to the local muffler shop and for a 100 bucks had 2 1/2 inch open pipes put on the Road Smith extensions and chrome slash cut tips. Sounds great, like a Porsche and really hums along the highway. Wife loves the sound too.
I have no clue as to the muffler system on my 2010 Motor Trike.
Neither did my Motor Trike dealer?? It not what MT is using now that's for sure.
They said it might be something MT tried for a while or a one off.
No one seems to know what it is.
To me it looks like a 60s automotive exhaust set up.
Cats from Honda, 2 chambered muffler sticks. 1 for each side then some nice long chrome truck tips.
Has a relatively low rumble to it. Especially for a boxer 6 engine.
Mine looks a lot like the pics of SMSgt trike.
I like it.
I'm thinking about torque cones and straight pipes, but right now I have Thrush Cherry Bomb mufflers on my goldwing and it sounds 100 times better than stock!!
I have the Cobra slip on on my 1800 and love the sound and look.
I just did a muffler mod. A good deep sound now, no droning.
My cousin did his a few months back and I really like the sound so he came up today so now I have good sound.
I'll try to make a sound clip.

My 06 came with Cobra mufflers and they made the bike sound like a loud Farrari on steroids. It gave me a head ace after 10 miles of riding it, and when a couple of Harley guys gave me a thumbs up, I knew it was time for the stock mufflers. They made the ride very annoying especially with the drone.
