Parade and my Trike

On the 4th My Trike and I are going to be in a Parade and I have a question. My concern is over heating. I think the Parade will be less about 1 hour, but, we will be traveling real slow. I know that if the engine does not cool enough by the wind, that the fan comes on. Will this be enough?

I have been in multiple parades, slow rides, and escorts with mine and have never had an overheating problem.......

I can't find what year you trike is but if it's after '06 it should be fine if your cooling system is in good shape. Honda enlarged radiators in '06 I believe. I've not been in a parade but have been in very slow traffic during 90 degree weather and I've not had a problem.

If my TG can handle slow travel over miles, I would think a GW would have no problem. Why, just last week I was in the parade called the Cross Bronx Expressway. Bumper to bumper for miles. Got hot, but ran fine. I think the synthetic helps also. Just try and take it easy on the clutch.

This is good news. Now I won't worry about it. I have synthetic also. Don't know if that has much to do with it, but won't hurt. Yesterday we were out in the heat driving very slow up a long hill. The fan came on, but the temp didn't change. So, I'm I think I'm in good shape for this.

My "03" rarely had the fans come on and my "10" comes on very often under 25 mph in hot weather, but the temp guage doesn't change.

worry about your clutch

Following Bag Pipers, Dance & Baton schools is NOT the greatest for any bike. Since most of the trikes in todays world have hydraulic clutch's, it is NOT a good idea. I've seen to many sitting along the roadway with NO clutch till the bike "cools" in 15 minutes. Hot (90's), humid (60-85%) and tarmac temps in the 120's is just a bad day for a "slow ride". Not worth the trouble to add fans/larger rads or other stuff.

If your the very 1st unit is the ONLY place I'd be...following the local Police Motorcycle Unit.

Ive had 2 bikes both V-Twins overheat in parades.
My 2010 GW trike the fan does come on quite often when in an idle situation for say 10 minutes or so but with no overheating.
From the dash dial it appears with my bike as soon as it hits a tad over the half way indicator my fans kick on with no overheating though.
My Valk is another story.
Its a 99 and will overheat and stall pretty quickly if left in a prolonged idle.
As others have said its the clutch you should have to be more concerned with.

Ive since given up on parades.
Last time was with my Yamaha RoadStar and I spent a lot of time BSing with a few HD riders also overheated on the side of the highway.
The main ride down here is the Toy for Tots run in December on I-575.
Its basically no more then 5mph for about 10 miles or so.
Seems lot of us spend time on the roadside having a drink and a smoke BSing.
That's actually a large part of the deal. Getting to know your fellow bikers.

Our local Goldwing club rides in the Veterans Day parade every year. There are about 3-4 trikes riding in the group and non have over heated.

As long as your fans are working you are good to go. If you are on a Harley you will burn up.

IF you should see the temperature gauge rising, simply hold in the clutch lever.

I have an '03 that that has an excitable temperature gauge. Pulling in the clutch lever helps keep the gauge from getting into the red.

I have a friend who used to do this until his clutch started slipping, as someone already mentioned.

I'd put her in neutral when you can.

I have ridden in several parades and the fans take care of the engine in great fashion. It's the clutch that catches hell.

It took me a long time owning the Valk to just get used to the idea of a radiator on a motor cycle.
To most of us diehard V-Twin folks any bike with a radiator is just wrong......
