Default Cooling vests - any suggestions

I have decided to purchase a cooling vest for my trip out to Sturgis/Yellowstone in 5 weeks.........will be touring several states, didn't realize until I started looking on line that there were so many types of vests and complanies that make them............any of our members that live out west and ride in that awful heat have any suggestion as to which ones might be the best to check out.......thanks!

The ones I use as Santa have pouches you put a gel pack in. Here is a better kind, imo, for a bike. These you soak in cold water for a few mins and they are good to go. That way you can recharge on the road. Not endorsing this company but as an example.

A co-worker who rides with her husband on their GW gave me one of her cooling vests because she was buying a new one (we live in Texas - it's 103 right now!). I don't know what brand it is right this minut but it is real thin and zips up in the front - you can wear under your jacket or over a t-shirt. It has some kind of gel built into the fabric wherein you dip it in cold water and it keeps cold but doesn't really make you wet. At her suggestion, I wet it, wrung it out and put it in the freezer and it stayed cold for a long time when I put it on! Here in the South we don't put our bikes/trikes up for the winter, we usually put them up in July and August and bring them out to ride in the fall, winter, spring and early summer. But July and August is almost unbearable where i live. Good luck finding one they are good to use!

I realize my previous post wasn't much help so I went online and looked. Look at this vest - this is what mine looks like (except it is blue). It's by TechNiche:

If you get one of the moisture wicking tee shirts, that will work even better.

I wear a CoolVest under a Tourmaster Air Intake 3 mesh jacket. I also have a Super Seer cooling helmet liner which I use. I have a medical issue which is brought on and exacerbated by heat and humidity; this combination has kept me in the saddle in the heat this summer.

    We ordered the one below.

Been 106 here in Midland, TX out at the airport this week; car temp driving in town said 109 on Wednesday at 5pm.

Going to try them out tomorrow. Will report back what we think of them.

We thought maybe the vest with the collar style might help in the neck area; costs more of course.

I really wish they would make these to also fit over the top of your legs - think I'll write them and suggest that.

After the Rally In the Valley V we ran into 104° temps after we got out of the mountains. We were sure glad we had the Hyperkewl evaproative vests by TechNiche. These are the only cooling vests we have owned, and there are other good systems out there, but the Hypwekewl evapoative ones are our only experience.
    TechNiche International
They are easy to recharge, just soak them in water for a few minutes, lightly ring them out and we towel off the inside so they don't drip down our pants. Gloria thought they weren't working, but she just was getting used to the cool. She was surprised how cold her skin was when she checked under the vest.
I got a black one to look more like a normal riding vest, even sewed on a few patches. Gloria has a brownish one, and we had silver in the past before I outgrew one and Gloria's apparently grew a few sizes larger. Some of the best $35 we have spent, and at the price if they only last a few years they pay for themselves.
They are a bit clammy, and they work best while moving in the high humidity we have in the Ozarks, the silver ones looked a bit strange, but being able to ride in the heat is well worth it.

I got my Hyperkewl in black from Bike Bandit TechNiche Hyperkewl Evaporative Cooling Vest - BikeBandit.com, on an end of season sale. At the time they sold them in Black, Kaki, Silver and Hi-Viz Yellow. Other times they may only have one color. Gloria got hers at Crusin' 66 motorcycle shop in Springfield, MO. We got our first ones at the Davis Rally in Iowa, and I have seen them on the web. You might have to search around if you want something other than silver, as that seems to be the color that about 85% of the outlets carry.

I have MS and have tried many different ones, by far the best one I have usd Nader $300 is made by Harley. Search their website and most dealerships are stocking them these days... Great price of $45.00. Soak it for 10 minutes, pull it out and ring it out and it stays cool for hours. 119 here today, my arms felt like they are on fire but my torso was nice and cool.

If you need (want) one I would just go for it. The basic vest is only around $40, in general, about $10 more for the deluxe one with a collar and pockets. they also make then with sleeves, but I have only seen pictures on the Techniche site, never in the wild.
Here is a deal - just $25.12 for a size large in khaki. cheapest shipping seem to be $7.55. Hyper Kewl Evaporative Cooling Vest, Khaki, Size: Lg, 6529KH-L
The evaporative vests work best when they are snug. These have stretchy panels on the sides. I am not home to check, but I think my current vest is a medium, I wear a size 38 jacket, if that is any help. My first one was a bit loose, so I sewed velcro straps on the sides to snug it up. If I gain weight I could slit the side stretch panels and do the velcro thing to expand it.

My wife has MS and we have tried the vest that you soak for a few minutes remove excess water and you are good to go. Have a cooler on the trailer thought it was perfect. Not so, if you take to much water out it does not cool very long if you leave it with a little more water in it she ends up with a wet t-shirt did not keep her very cool.
This year we got a cool vest that you freeze some gel packs and put them in the vest. For us anyway it is way better kept her cool for hours in 90 degrees and she did not have a wet T-shirt. This summer we went with our friends to VT from CT. When we stopped every on was complaining about the heat and drinking gallons of water. My wife was cool made the trip for us much better. Cooling vest with gel packs is not cheap think it was $200. But it kept my wife in the wind so for us it was well worth it.
