Back from cams and dyno. Roeder racing did the work.
Only test rode it up there and here past MSocko's house. Tried to wake him up but the road is too bumpy.
Will try the 100mph no ping test as soon as we get a dry day.

I'm very interested in the results, and how Roeder did for you. I'm thinking about having Roeder tune my trike; I've always liked their shop and service.

Rick, I can tell you this so far.
Great people to work with
They will want your Trike for a week so they can do cold starts and re-tune. So that means drop off and another trip to pick-up. I used my trailer and left the trailer there for the week. But I'm only 150 miles each way.
Call and talk to them, maybe they can work something out for you. Last time I checked, they were about 3 weeks out or lead time.
Two quick rides were very good but I still have not made the real test yet. Remember the other place admitted that they were havin trouble with the high heat top speed pinging. Everything else seemed fine. I would bet most people don't ride at this level like I do, so it would not have been an issue for them. But it was for me.
Right now it feels good and the dyno chart looks good, but I need to get it to 230* in temp and then high speed to know for sure. If it does what I think it will do, I will be a very happy camper. If not, it will go back to them and they know it. They want to make it right also.

Geeze, I knew your dad went, I didn't know you went too? How was the rain???

Sure Rick, anytime.
I don't like to talk about the 120 too much cause I know it makes you envious. But it is nice......
My dad and a friend I grew up with went, the three of us have been getting together once a year to go some place. Half of the trip was pretty good with little to no rain, the other have was quite wet. It rained buckets all day Wednesday and pretty much all day Thursday while we road home. We spent the night in Jeffersonville Oh and as luck would have it we were blessed with more liquid sun shine to ride in for a couple hours.

Finally got to do the high temp, high speed, roll-on, cruise test on my 120R HD Trike.
Very, very happy! Roeder Racing nailed this set-up. The S&S 585 cams are just the ticket for the way I ride.
I will explain my test's but keep in mind they did a cam swap and a dyno tune also.
After getting the motor up to 230*, which is normal operating temp, the pinging is NOT there. But the power is! From 70mph on to 100mph. no ping. That's a 6th gear, 2900rpm roll-on. I would not hesitate passing a semi this way on the interstate. I refuse to ride next to front wheel lug nuts.
If I down shift to 5th at 70mph., best be hanging on. NO PINGING!!
For me the choice of cam (s&s 585) was a good one. I wanted to shift the TQ down lower in the RPM band and come on earlier. It did just that. The cam moved it down about 400rpm., right where I wanted it for this trike, and my riding style.
Now as far as a 120R in a Trike, it is not for everybody, but it is alot of fun!! Some people don't even use all the power (abiet low) in their stock engine, and that's fine.
I think a Trike needs all the TQ it can get, and this is just another way to get it. It's not a "racer" and can't be, it's too heavy, but this set up will move.
Would I do it again...... YUP!! Nice set-up for a Trike.
Later,... eighty80.
Glad you are happy with the results. I might do something with mine this winter. M3 and I have been talking about it.

Have you checked your fuel mileage since the new cams and tune?

No,... not yet. I was into the throttle too much to even try. Probably would have been about 10mpg the way I was testin for pinging.
First of all, thank's for givin me a heads-up on getting a 2nd tune instead of just changing spark plugs.
Second, I do think that the 120R needs a cam change when it is used in a HD Trike. Weather a custom cam or not, that would be a customer choice.
Third, you said from the start, that there would be a drop in HP. and TQ, and there was. Thank's for all that info.... spot on.
Is there more HP and TQ in the motor?... I don't know? But I do know for a Trike it is great. Ya better be payin attention when ya turn the throttle hard and fast. Hope I don't break any belts between 1st and 2nd.
I don't chase numbers, so other than "wards cooling fans" I'm done with motor mods. But for chits and giggles, 115hp/120tq.sae.
Thank's again, Later eighty80.
Well I finally checked the mpg since the cam change and tune. Made a trip to Salamanca, NY. About 210 miles on interstate, with some hills, cruise set at 72mph. and close to 3000rpm. Math says 32mpg. Good enough for me with this motor. 120r and s&s 585 cams.
Great ride in 85deg. heat and NO ping.pepper
