Lehman Trikes

We are staying in Sturgis for a week or so and were going to the Devils Tower and went thru Spearfish SD on I-90 and saw a big building with Lehman Trikes sign on it. Stopped on our way back and they were closed but had info on the door that said factory tours 8, 12, and 3. So will go take a tour tomorrow. I didn't know they were located here.
 
Have been past the building many times but have never stopped. In fact we did the SD State Hog Rally in Spearfish on June 14th and 15th. I hope you enjoy your stay in Sturgis. Lots of great places to ride around there. Take the Spearfish Canyon road and check out the waterfalls. You may want to also take the Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake and Iron Mountain Road. If you take the Needles Highway north to south and then go over to Iron Mountain Road doing that south to north the tunnels on the road are aligned with direct views of Mt. Rushmore as you go thru the tunnel. Iron Mountain Road is 17 miles long, 400 curves, 22 switchbacks, 3 pigtail bridges and 3 tunnels plus some elevation changes so it will keep you entertained and busy.

A few years ago, we stayed at the Super 8 in Spearfish on our way out to and the way back from Cody, Yellowstone, Beartooth, Cooke City, Red Lodge ride.
It is across from Lehman, so on the way home , we went over and took a tour of the plant.
At that time they were doing the HD trike kits. There were HD's (w/o the back ends on them) all over the place ready for the kit to be added and shipped to dealers.
It was a nice interesting side trip for us.

Pictures would be very nice. I've talked to Lori and she was very helpful, and very willing to help. Great folks, I'm glad I have a Lehman. pepper
 
Well we went to Lehman today and she was in a meeting, can't remember the guys name that took us but he was very nice. There was not much going on, they were triking a couple Kows and a Honda. Only saw one guy working. I saw the independent rear suspension but he did say the live axle would handle better, the independent leans to the outside in a turn. He ask that we not take a picture of that. There just wasn't anything going on. He said that when they were doing the Harleys that they would do 30 units a day, thats purty good production. We saw a prototype for a Victory (few years ago), looked good but was never put into production. I did get a picture of the original trike that John Lehman built that started it all, will post it when I can.

I want to mention, just in case Scott, your tour guide did not mention that we were in between truck shipments yesterday and that is why there weren't as many trikes being converted. Today we are filling up with two truck loads of bikes for conversion. Lehman is alive and healthy and we encourage everyone to stop on in and visit! I also want to apologize that you were not able to take a photo of the suspension. That is perfectly fine to do and if you would like to see a photo we do have them on our website and facebook pages. <br />

Thanks Jamie, as the owner of a new Lehman GW I was a little surprised, and concerned, to read about the lack of activity. I love my Lehman and pray that the company is growing and getting back on its feet. <br />

We hope to get to Spearfish next spring when we head west on a long trip.<br />

Jaime thanks for the info, I would have liked to see a truck load of bikes being done. Not a problem with the picture, Scott was fine and very informative. We enjoyed our tour.

Lehman has a slightly different business model than other manufacturers...They build a lot of conversions but they also build a LOT of brand new turn-key trikes of all kinds for their dealers inventory. One example is the Kawasaki Storm that is being sold through Kawasaki dealers nationwide. Check out their Facebook page where Jamie just posted a pic of two truckloads of new bikes unloading at their plant last Friday. They are busy!

Congrats on your new Monarch II! It is the Cadillac of rides! Yes, Lehman is alive and well and we look forward to hopefully meeting you at the factory someday soon!
