Tri-Glide Oil Filter Removal

Just received my 2010 Ultra Tri-Glide, Runs great, but usually change oil at 500 miles, then take it in for the 1000 mile checkup as usual.
I noticed there is not much room between the filter and the crank position sensor. Has any one removed the filter without removing the position sensor first? The oil cooler adapter moves the filter closer to the sensor than on non oil cooled bikes.

Sorry to say, but just bite the bullet and buy the special oil filter wrench from your local HD shop. It's still a pain in the ---to do, but at least it's doable.

I have a HD strap wrench, but was concerned about how far the filter unscrews before being able to take it out completely., The strap wrench will not come close to the position sensor, so the wrench part of it is not the issue.

Get the HD filter removal tool. It will cost a few bucks but is worth its weight in gold for the time and grief it saves. With the cooler in place it is virtually impossible to use anything else without first removing the sensor.

There is just enough room to tilt the filter as it reachs the end of the threads to clear the sensor.

Thanks tmigala that's what i was looking for. Even if i could get the filter off with my bare hands i was wondering if it would clear the sensor. Excellent news, as i hate to remove parts unless necessary.

Purchased one of the cutout oil filter wrenches from dealer part # HD-44067A made by Kent-Moore. This company makes a lot of HD tools and it is a quality item.
I did my 500 mile oil change and the wrench worked great, no clearance problems with engine and the filter came off without a problem with the crank position sensor.
I used a 6 inch extension on my rachet to clear the shift linkage.
