Rear Tire Changing

Hello,

I wanted to find out opinions on rear tire changing for a Honda GL1800.
Are there specific ways to ensure the fenders do not get damaged upon removal? If no lift available, should a dealer who is familar with trikes handle the job?

Wanting to change out my rear tires, as I had the front changed recently. I have no experience in performing this job, but wanted to find out if anybody has ideas related. Any and all help is appreciated, and thanks for your consideration. God Bless!

Bruce what is the conversion manufacture? Might make a difference on what needs to be done to change the tire. My champion kit I just pump up the air shocks for body clearance then jack up on the shock mount. I tilt the tire slightly bottom out and remove in a downward motion.

My DFT you remove them just like a CAR. As long as the tire clears the ground you can just pull it off. ( after you remove the lug nuts ) <LOL>

Thanks for the replies. It is a Trikeshop conversion, but I don't have the necessary lifts, etc... to perform the job. It appears that if it was lifted off the ground, that you would definitely need to pull from the bottom out in order to clear the fender.

I suspect I will take it to a shop and have it done. That way I can make sure it is balanced as well.

If you are comfortable changing a tire/wheel on a car, you can change the rear assemblies on a trike. The drill is the same. You will need to loosen the lug nuts/bolts and jack the wheel up as you would on a car. Some trikes have larger wheel cutouts than others making it easier but all are doable.

If you intend to replace the tires, I suggest that you take the assemblies to a tire shop for mounting and balancing. This will also give you the opportunity to clean the wheels more easily than you can with them mounted on the trike.

I once tried pulling them without removing the lug nuts and I lost three days work from the back pain.
