Taller windshields

I don't know how many like the taller windshields, but this evening I was traveling about 60mph down the highway & caught a small bird right in the re-curve of my 12" shield.
He went about 25' in the air, so I guess the re-curve works........... But when I got home & cleaned bird off the shield,,,,,, He scratched my shield ! Must have been bones !
Point is tho,,,,, He didn't hit me thanks to a tall shield !!

I'm short, 5'6" and I'm using a 10" tall windshield. The 10" is actually measured from the top of the batwing, not from the bottom of the windshield like some companies do. Anyway, rule of thumb is you should be able to look over your windshield at all times and not only be able to look thru the windshield. As it stands, if I ride in my relaxed position I'm looking somewhat thru the windshield, but if I sit upright then I'm looking over my windshield. Wife like this one because of the recurve which forces the wind up more and as a result she's not getting buffeted around as much.

I've no association with Clearview Windshields, but I've tried lots of companies and have found this one the best in both construction and clarity. Plus I like it that they sell their windshields based on measuring from the top of the batwing. This way you know ahead of time exactly where the top of your windshield is going to be and can order accordingly. Their prices are very competitive but if they don't have your size in stock it does take several weeks to get one since I don't think they mass produce them.

On one of my trips to Arizona yrs ago. I was riding down the freeway going from Albuquerque. N.M to Flagstaff and A small bid hit me between my face and my helmet. Damn near took off my sideburns . But I still love the small windshield. I think its a 4 inch on the bagger. love seeing over the windshield. To each his own. What ever works for you !

I like them TALL. Mine looks like a semi windshield! The largest and widest Clark makes.
I made a comment to wife on last trip. We were in the middle of nowhere on very flat land. We are stuck at our height and the birds have plenty of room to fly higher than us. OH NO, they seemed to be bullets flying across at our head height!
Hit one like that this last trip and have had several in past hit my lowers, one very stuck between lower and bar.
It has never bothered me looking through a windshield, rain or shine. I just like having one there these days. (radio and cruise is also nice touch)

Dennis. We stay in Arizona for the winter months. Down there its beautiful everyday for a ride. I saw this one Goldwing down there for the last 4 yrs now. His windshield is so tall. Standing next to it. I have to reach up and still can't touch the top. Also he has a canvas top that goes from there to the back of his tout pak. My buddy asked him why not just get a car . He just laughed and took off. Nice guy and a nice bike. Clean as hell. But it just looked funny at the time.

I like a taller windshield, being 6'5" on a good day. Recently I bought a taller windshield 24" above the top of the head light on my Pitboss TRIKE. It sits level with the top of my head, and is a buffeting sob. I am going to trim it down 1.5 or 2" off of it. I think the old rule of being able to see over the top is wise.

I made the air baffle that goes behind the forks, & also cut & fitted a pair of fork side baffles. The re-curve LRS windshield I have brought a lot of air upward. Didn't like all the buffeting. With the other baffles on there is no buffeting ! Didn't bother engine heat at all.

The mods I had to make to the fork baffles were quite simple. I just had to cut out for the turn signal arm, & then cut a hole with a hole saw & a high speed grinder to let the back of the turn signal housing through. This was done to a pair from a Glide I had picked up.

In over 40 years of Harleys, the Tri is only the second bike I've ridden that had a windshield. First was my '08 Ultra. I've got a 8" shield on mine, and a 6" on wife's. We can both look over it, but it seems to divert bugs, rain or hail over out heads. I will 'acquire some bug blobs on the top of my helmet after a long ride. I took off the stock wind screen a day or two after I bought the bike, I guess between my prescription glasses and the distortion of the shield I couldn't see very well.
