nice job on leading forks. May i ask what deg did you weld the neck at...I read the thread but missed the neck degs .. Im just now converting my junk over to leading link.. I still get confused with rake and trail.. thanks butch
I considered a front end build similar to the one on your trike as I like the looks of it a lot, but I have wanted to build a leading link for many years - anyway I will ride this a while and then I may try a variation of the leading link style ,,,,but it takes time and its hard to say how much time I can give to play'n with this as I have many irons in the fire!! a lot of work that needs to get finished if it ever stops raining here in central il.

well guys I'm still waiting for shocks I ordered,,, I have a set of hd ultra air shocks I took off my bike @ about 500 miles - if others don't show up soon think i'll go with air shocks- just though springs and fluid would be less trouble- all-tho
I just set air pressure in spring & seems to hold all year in my sidecar rig,,,,
I just want to finish front end getting antsy!!!

ok I got the trike on wheels!! front end is close to done still work'n on a couple of things but heres what I got
1. shows you a good view of my junk and how front end sets
2.is a closer look at tubes and upper mounts they are not done but hold trike up with wife and I on it a few min. ago
3.just a different view ,, I jacked trike up 3/4 inch and tacked upper mount
I will cut them loose and re-attach them about 3/8's so link will be leave with trike loaded I guessed wrong that's why I don't play the lotto !!
you can see the 1 1/2 inch circle cut in on inside of tubes over tire that's where a tube/fork brace will live it will be different than that your use to seeing but should be cool... then I need to move on if I'm going to get this going this summer !!!

Okay ... looking good ... even I can see how the front suspension is gonna work ...
well did a little work on shock mounts and fork brace,,,
1.&2. show the upper mount with metal work done
3. shows fork brace tacked in place with the 12 bolt holes drilled and tapped
4. just gives you a little better look at how it all looks
5. shows the line that I will cut so that legs can be removed one at a time if needed- I made a 4130 moly sleeve that fits over the joint, 12 allen head bolts hold it in place... welding is now finished did it this morning-will reassemble front end and take a few more pics. tomorrow

Dang I'm loving this thread ... building my own is on the bucket list ... great job Magoo ... looking sweeeeet.
thanks my friend!!
semi gloss black cleaned it up I will repaint or black oxide front end down the road but semi gloss black will probably stay on trike unless we see some color we like better !!
we have a 1954 ford panel truck I customized back in 1978or9 it has been two or three color but semi gloss black has been on it for last25 years
guess I like that color...

working on brake line for front brake
starting off with left side brake only,, if I'm not happy with one I will machine other side of wheel to except rotor- its just time consuming and a little complicated,, my buddy T-bone @ bike-shop told me yesterday "well you keep talking about you may as well do it" guess we will see anyway heres what I've come up with looks like I got to build my own lines!!
1. a piece of line cut then pushed through nut
2. ferrell pushed in-between ss steel braid and liner.
3. special banjo fitting that has sleeve on end that pushes into liner.
4.nut being tightened up to complete fitting
5.banjo fitting ans crush washers going on caliper
6.what finished brake line installation looks like.
hope this was not to boring but its part of the process....

also it would be nice if description could be - beside each pic is this something that can be done ???

when I get brakes and lights done I can get inspection and title so get'n close!!!
mike aka magoo
Sure ... In the second row of icons, third group over is a square picture icon. Type the description you want, return, click on that icon, add picture, return, repeat as necessary.
Not boring at all ... all part of the process ... I'm soaking it all up in case I do get the guts to do this myself some day ... I'm thinking VW trike, but lots of this will be the same.
I ordered the steel for handlebars as well as all material that I was short to complete brakes front and rear... ordered a few led lights to get tail/brake turn sig. done... trying to find road glide fairing that I can afford- not easy they are a hot item! need to come up with a temporary head light to get this thing inspecting by state guess I need to talk to my buddy 2 bike shop again!!~!
