Traveling South Suggestions

My wife and I are located in central California and have traveled all through the west coast with our then bike and trailer, now we are headed to the south east in September with our now trike and of course, trailer. We are looking at three weeks maybe longer not sure at this time and plan to buzz through Nevada,Utah, Arizona, pick up Interstate #40 and kind of slow down in New Mexico and from there its all virgin territory to us on La machine. Our plan is to travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana ( looking at perhaps the Bayou), Mississippi and Tennessee. Now I know that's a lot of real estate to cover, however I am hoping that's were your suggestions will come in handy, because many of you reside in that part of our country. We are compiling information from the Internet of course, but have found that local first hand knowledge seems to be by far the best. So if you feel you can set us on the right path on our little excursion please chime in and share any and all suggestions they would be most appreciated.

If you are coming to Louisiana I would suggest coming to Lafayette for some great cajun food. Some suggestions are Prejean's or Fezzo's. These are not chains but local places that serve local food. While here you could ride over to the Henderson Swamp and Atchafalaya Basin for an airboat ride or swamp tour. Good luck and safe travels.

As you ride through Ak.THE PIG TRAIL is worth doing.Eureka Springs is a good stop.Northern Al. is good riding(FORT PAYNE).Brp is good if you have that much time.It all depends on what you wnt to see.If I can help holler.RIDE SAFE

When you get to Miss. grab a couple hundred miles of the ,,Natchez Trace ,, on up into Tenn. love that ride ,,plan your fuel stops if you do .....

If you make it over to Tenn and have the time you realy need to travel the east side of the state. And or course a little farther over the Blueridge Parkway in NC is a great ride. I'm headed there in two weeks.pepper

Bikerbillone: Nope no camping just motel'en. Its got to be a least two feet off the ground so I can get up in the morning. (smile)

WOW! All you guys and gals are great. As I have said earlier we have never been in that neck of the woods before, and I just can't tell you all how much my wife and I appreciate all your suggestions.. The cajun food restaurants, along with their names, air boat rides with locations, the rides in different states suggested WOW again.. From what I am gather'en and Blondie Gal suggested web site (Southern Dozen) east Tennessee is a must, so we need to work on that for sure.

What about a cruse through the Ozarks? Now I know that is a loaded question, because love "and of course the ride" is in the eye of the beholder, but our time is limited.

I live on the east side of Missouri and the Ozarks are great to ride in. One of our favorite ride accross the bottom of the state is Hwy 160. If you are going to the Branson area Hwy 160 is a good bike road to travel accross the southern part of Missouri.<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" class="inlineimg" />

Just loved this thread and the responses. some of you may have seen my post that I'm pickign up my Goldwing this Fri. so my first long distance ride is the ride home from Ohio to bucks County Pa.
Then on Saturday, I plan to take my wife on a picnic ride, maybe to Washington Crossing State Park. (I haven't told her yet). Not a long ride but it's a start for us and the Trike.
When I started contemplating this purchase, she asked me if she was getting a pair of leather pants..........Man she's going to look good!

After Labor day decided not to head south due to the heat, So we though we would do the logical thing and headed north. Went through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming and just about lived in the rain gear.. Had a fun trip but just to much rain....Heading home planing for next years big trip......

Louisiana is one of the best place and many more, but Louisiana is my favorite, because I had a special connection with this place I stayed there a year with the family I will never forget the friends and I suggest to you that travel is good for both and you spend great time through the travelling..
