    Unhappy Over heating

    We have a 2005 GW with the road smith conversion. While riding the highway to the sun road in glacier national park the bike was over heating and I had to pull over three times and let it cool down. Traffic was slow and we were at 10000 ft when we got to the flats the temp gauge read normal. Next over heating happened on the way to Sedona over a mountain pass 6000 ft once we started down hill the temp gauge read normal. Checked coolent level and is fine. We have ridden mountain roads last year and no problems. Any suggestions as to what I should check next would be greatly appreciated.

    Boiling points change with altitude. That said, if you were at high altitudes last year with no problems, but problems this year. You may want to check a Thermostat.
    Please keep in mind all my trikes are air cooled. So I could be talking out my posterior.

    New radiator cap. If yours is letting the pressure drop, it can affect your cooling system. If it gets too hot with too little pressure, it can boil over.
    A new cap is the cheapest and easiest thing to try.

    Also, if you are still running the original coolant then it is way over due replacement. Antifreeze (aka coolant) looses it's ability to cool over time.

    The major cause of overheating on a Goldwing is clogged radiator fins from bugs, mud, etc. The solution is to back flush it with a hose. Mine clogged after riding Haul Rd in Alaska.
    The only problem with a 500 mile day is what to do with the rest of the afternoon[/COLOR].

    Thanks for the info can you explain how to back wash the fins. Do I just hose off the fins?

    After the Wing has cooled

    Saturate the radiators with straight peroxide

    Wait four or five minutes than rinse with the hose.

    Repeat

    Thats a honda goldwing. the fans turn off at 12mph the tem goes up on a pull or holding the bike back .a long down hill in a lower gear. as long as it doesnt get to the red dont worry about it
